Lessons in brute strength (for MappleMan7)

Post by ThatPolishDude »

Tilde remembered well her time learning the ropes and taking her first steps at wrestling. It wasn't that long ago after all and she was excited to learn that there was a program that LAW put together for up-and-coming wrestlers. Back in her country, there wasn't much in terms of gyms that would help you, and finding one herself was a chore, it was good that here there was an option for that. Either way she was really excited to meet the young lions and would be happy to help any of them to get better and soon after her arrival an opportunity would present itself.

A man about her own age was looking to train in order to get ready for his upcoming fight. After a quick research Tilde found out that Oscar, because that was his name had a few fights under his belt and for a rookie seemed to be quite successful. Of course, his size was quite the advantage and lent itself well to a more power-based approach which he seemed to use to some effect. Of course, as she would be an example, size was not all that mattered, and knowing how to use one's strength was the important part so seeing as they shared their approach she would take the training request to show him some of her own tricks and work on his technique.

Right now she was sitting at the edge of the ring in one of LAW's gyms waiting for him to arrive, there was still some time as she came early as she tended to do as well as in order to talk with some other Lions that might be in the midst of their rutine.

Oscar adjusted his gym bag as he walked out of the trainee dorms and towards the gym. He was quite excited about the idea of meeting someone new- especially someone who could help him learn more in powerhouse style wrestling. Tina was an amazing teacher and her friends were a big help as well, but due to the large size distance and their talents lying in more technical styles, there was only oh so much they could do. All of that was about to change if it went well enough.

Entering through the front doors about fifteen minutes early, the Barbarian Prince would scout out for the woman who accepted his training request, soon spotting Tilde and heading over.

"Hey- Tilde, right? I'm Oscar. Thanks for accepting my request!'

There was a friendly smile on his face as he reached out towards the would-be trainer, offering a handshake.

Sliding off the edge of the ring Tilde would make a few steps toward Oscar and shake his hand. "That's me! Now get ready and tell me what would you like to focus on today. Of course, after you warm up." She would say with a welcoming smile. From the moment she saw him she was sizing him up. He sure was big and looked strong, that would definitely be an advantage but she couldn't pass any judgment yet.

"Well sure. To be simple with it..."

Oscar would go ahead and start doing his warm-ups. Arm stretching, leg stretching, all that stuff.

"A lot of my training has gone into submission holds and using my size and muscle to help secure opponents in place. Part of my strategy is to use slamming and striking moves to tire out who I fight before locking them in something, but... the list of physical moves I know is short compared to my submissions. I'm hoping to learn more strikes, slams, or throws so I'd like to focus on those if possible"

"Throws and such I can definitely help with, such is my specialty. Let's start with what you know and a little theory. What muscle groups are most important for power moves?" She would say leaning on a nearby squat rack and observing her new student.

"Oof... I don't really know all that much about anatomy but uh..."

Oscar hummed while he did his stretches, trying to think of muscle names.

"I know the biceps are in the arms but... that's it"

*He let out an awkward laugh and scratched the back of his head*

"But! I do know the upper body muscles and the lower body muscles are important. Upper body for lifting a the lower body for maintaining balance... while also helping with lifting"

"No need to know the names. Actually lower body does more work in lifting than you realize and from the upper body core muscles do the most work also for stability as it's easier to get you off balance the higher the pressure is. Arms are counterintuitively the least important for most moves. Think of how much more you can deadlift in comparison to curls and bench press. It comes from the lower body and if you build enough momentum there it can carry you through the move you wouldn't be able to pull off otherwise and makes all of them easier." She continued from her position.

"Oohhh I see"

Oscar nodded his head in understanding.

"That's a handy fact. I've been lifting with my arms for the most part of my time here"

"Easy mistake, especially if you have your size, still it will save you a lot of energy and potential injuries. Now hit some cardio and do a few sets with weights or body mass and we can start. Always do a full warm-up, less chance you will hurt your self that way."

"Of course. Right away"

Oscar would nod and head to a nearby rowing machine- opting to start on that cardio as he sat himself down, set the machine to a strong setting, and would start his warm up. As he did this, he'd look over at Tilde.

"So... if you don't mind me asking, how did you get into wrestling?'
