If one had to describe Kate in one word it would be “intense”. She is very determined and unafraid to speak her mind which might lead to her coming off as brash and certainly doesn’t take shit from anyone. Her confidence is a more complex matter, while she is somewhat aware of her skill and achievements, she is always chasing the next thing and how to improve herself, never satisfied with where she is at. At the same time, she is very respectful to people who achieved success in whatever endeavour they pursued (as long as they achieved it honestly) but has a tendency of underselling her own achievements. In truth, she is quite insecure about her place in the world and wants to amount to something that she could be remembered for while seeing herself as always short of what it actually takes even if she is clearly wrong in that distributing a lot of it to sheer luck.
On the other hand, she can be easily embarrassed if caught on something she wouldn't want others to see her doing or when confronted with more in your face and bold behaviour directed at her.

From very early on, Kate had to get used to moving from place to place. Shortly after she was born, her mother joined the military which had them move from place to place as her postings changed and while she was away on deployments it left her young child alone with her father and siblings. In effect, she grew up to think of them as her only friends, not being able to make friends where they moved, knowing that they wouldn't stay for long, and seeing her mother as more distant and always fighting for her attention which due to the way they led their lives, was rather rare. Truth is that her mother did and still does love her very much but her not being there for large parts of her life meant there was a rift between them.
Eventually, after climbing the ranks, her mother got a permanent assignment at the US army base in Japan when her daughter was starting high school. This move was planned long in advance and gave Kate a chance to learn the language in a still rather impressive timeframe thanks to her natural inclination for linguistics. The following years however would not be made much easier by this. Especially with her losing the support she had from her father as he was diagnosed with cancer and regretfully lost a fight against it.
Being an outsider in Japan can be hard, even more so when you are a child of us army officer. She was bullied by her classmates, and there were a few attempts by other students to beat her up, which ended poorly for the attackers but in more than one case it was still blamed on her being the one who initiated the whole thing. Still, her grades were unquestionably high so due to that, she managed to avoid expulsion. That however left a strong mark on her as a certain strained relationship with authorities.
Her history with fighting sports started from a very early age as she tried to follow in her mother's footsteps given that before joining the army she had participated in both classical wrestling and boxing. She always found a place to train wherever they moved and working out and perfecting her body was the main way she dealt with the stresses that were a part of her life.
As soon as she could she also participated in competitions, managing to score local titles in boxing as well as Sambo in a few separate areas she lived in. Notably, she won the Texas Golden Gloves tournament at the age of 16 and won gold medals in the national Sambo tournament two years in a row. Eventually, after turning 18 she participated in her first televised event. That was a one-time bare-knuckle gauntlet with very loose rules, which she entered as a complete underdog, given all other participants had more of an established careers in the fighting industry. Regardless of that, she steamrolled through the competition thus drawing the eye of LAW recruiters who offered her a contract. Kate initially refused, saying that she shouldn’t join the main roster given her lack of experience and self-reportedly “lacking skill” saying that her win in the gauntlet was lucky. That left the recruiters rather confused as it was clear that was not the case but regardless they settled on enlisting her in the young lioness program.
Her nickname comes from the interview she had after her victory in the mentioned gauntlet, at some point she was asked about her favourite animal, her answer being a wombat. From there on her small circle of fans started calling her various names connected to that fact, from the purple wombat to the goofiest one, the combat wombat. She is yet to publicly endorse any of these names though her usage of one on Twitter can be interpreted as such.
