Not much is known about Kunyomi’s early life. The man dubbed "The Midnight Slayer" speaks only in fragments of his past, hinting at a time when he was very young and had a family he once cherished and lost. Forced to fend for himself in the wild, Kunyomi grew ungodly strong, surpassing human limits to stay alive. Survival was brutal, and he despised the killing necessary to stay alive. Yet, his loneliness outweighed his strength, leaving him yearning for a place to belong.
Kunyomi’s life changes when he encounters Bao Li, a short and kindhearted witch, right after a hunt. Sitting next to the corpses of a few animals, caked in blood while licking his wounds, Bao li would surprise him by offering a peculiar triangular treat covered in white snow (A cupcake) – his first taste of food prepared with care, not survival. Touched by her kindness, he followed her to a large building where she introduced him to a woman in silky white clothes. This woman taught Kunyomi to speak again, helping him along with the other members to relearn morality and basic social skills. Over time, he became a slow but gentle giant, fiercely protective of his new community.
Kunyomi bonded with several members of the clan, including a playful girl in a red mask who became his best friend and a quiet, tall woman who treated him kindly. However, Bao remained his favourite, and her small act of kindness unlocked his capacity for love and formed an inseparable bond between them. Kunyomi’s primal instincts resurface in the squared circle despite his kindness outside the ring. Threaten those he cares about, and the civilized veneer vanishes, revealing the monstrous Freakbeast who dominates opponents with sheer brutality.
