Fighting style

Spoiler
Being a former boxing champion, it shouldn't come off as a surprise that Kenji is a striker at heart. Although the bitterness from quitting the competition made him very much reluctant about going back to his old habits. After joining LAW he made a bow to reinvent himself; combining a number of knee and elbow strikes followed by submissions to break his opponents, refusing to use his fists unless he's in a very tough spot or if he's particularly displeased with the enemy. None of his attacks are more vicious than his tongue though, he's what people refer to as a provoker.

Stats

Spoiler
Endurance: 4/5| Getting hit in the noggin everyday since childhood will do this to you.
Strength: 3/5| Pretty strong when compared to normal people. Still, not that relevant unless we're talking about his left hook.
Speed: 3/5| Fast footwork, but not the fastest runner there is.
Defense: 3/5| Again, his footwork make him an artful dodger, but he's not used to actually block the attacks that come his way.
Technique: 2/5| By far his weakest point: He's trying hard enough to learn all the holds. but expect him to commit mistakes that can give his victims the chance to escape him, especially if they're small compared to him.

Wrestling Stats

Spoiler
Strikes: 5/5| Absolutely deadly, he prioritizes elbow strikes, knee strikes and kicks during matches because they are way less potent than his fists, but make the mistake to piss him enough to actually make him want to beat you, and you'll see why he was a champ.
Power Moves: 2/5| He's strong, but not enough to regularly depend on these, apart from his Fireman Carry, don't expect him to be trying any of those.
Aerial Moves: 2/5| Not scared of heights, but they aren't his cup of tea, might try some from the middle ropes, but that would be too tardy to be useful during a match.
Counters: 2/5| Along with his faulty technique, when found himself in a pickle, Kenji will try to squirm and get out of there and fail unless he's given the chance to escape with a mighty punch.

Finishing Moves

Spoiler
  • Night, bitch!: Just a simple Go to Sleep, where he suspends the enemy in a Fireman Carry and then drops them, slamming his knee to their face as they fall.
  • Meteor Fall:Death Valley Driver that ends slamming the foe after hoisting them up in his shoulders.
  • Spinefuck: Regular Fireman Carry when the opponent is facing the other way, transforming it into an Argentine Backbreaker.
  • Mugshot: Reserved for those who are in his shitlist, let's say that when kenji goes for the head, he'll punch his enemies into next week, which will be the time they wake up after this.

Personality

Spoiler
A cynic out and inside of the ring. Kenji Shinku is quite a talker. Very quick to trash talk his opponents and allies alike, this of course has made him a lot more of the former rather than the latter. He does care for some people though, and even if subtle, he shows some appreciation for them. The most common way one could find a speck of decency in his being is the fact that he normally tends to go easy on people he deems as good people, even able to let them win if he thinks they deserve it. To the people that somehow manage to put up with his crap? He's still no sweetheart, but neither is he a bad person. If you become friends with him, or if he likes you enough, he'll try to pester them as little as possible.

Backstory

Spoiler
Born in Japan to a happy marriage, Kenji's life quickly turned into a tragedy when his mother passed away when he was just a babe, leaving him to his father's care; a former boxer that retired after marriage and still runned an old boxing gym. Leaving the poor man to grief for his deceased wife, Kenji's life started being less than ideal; training him in what he described as "the old Spartan way", the redheaded boy was raised not like many other kids his age, knowing harsh physical training for most of his day-to-day life.

When he was deemed worthy of it, his father started training him in the ring ever since he was able to lift the boxing gloves, hitting him inside of the ring and calling it training, and hitting him in home and calling it a night of drinks. Kenji still went to school in his early days, being known as the bruised kid, but never wer there anyone to say anything about it because his father made it no secret that the kid was training to become a big shot boxing champion for Japan, and there really wasn't anyone else to look after the kid besides him. In his highschool years, Kenji became a troublesome teen thanks to his violent upbringing, soon enough he started to befriend other troublesome teens, becoming friends with another violent kid from that circle, a boy that would later grow up to become a member of the Yakuza.

Kenji soon dropped out of school when his father judged him worthy to enter the professional leagues. Some guys thought that boxing was a sport, for Kenji, it was more of a life style. It took him little effort to use the weakest links in there to climb up the pyramid until he began to rub elbows with the bigger fishes. He made it to the Japanese Title Elimination tournament, and then in the Champion Carnival, where he would be able to challenge the Light Heavyweight champion for his title. His life seemed to be reaching the climax of all his hard work. But one day he was contacted by an old friend, now a Yakuza boss, his former friend tried to convince him into taking the fall in his challenge, for his clan managed the champion's career and they new that Kenji was an actual threat to that position.

Kenji might have been a stubborn young man, but he wasn't stupid. He recognized a threat when he saw one, and between his life and the reason as to why his father groomed him with abuse, he chose to save his skin. The match came, he saw every punch before it hit, every hole in his defense, and he could have defeated that man before the last hit that left him KO, but he didn't do it. After that, a hefty reward made it to his family, but still, the damage was done, his father appeared to intend to use that money to pay for his alcoholism, and his love for box completely shattered after that.

Now that his life purpose was already turned to shambles, he was left to wonder what to do with his existence now that he didn't had nothing else going for him and with the idea of putting the gloves making him sick in the stomach. One day he was hitting the gym of his old man until he was encountered by another girl that challenged him to a sparring match, and she came very close to defeat him as well! The girl said that she was aspiring to become a wrestler in a place named LAW. She complimented him for his strength and asked him if he wanted to join with her. He was after all, exactly what her manager was looking for. When asked about meeting that strange girl's manager, Kenji just thought; "Why not?"

Fun Facts

Spoiler
  • I'm the bad guy: After being presented with the moral divisions that come with wrestling, Kenji found the role of a Heel more appealing than a Face. He finds pleasure in playing the villain for the audience, but if he finds the other wrestler in need of a win, he's willing to take the defeat after his bad experience with an arranged defeat. But make no mistake, if he finds his rival to be insufferable, he'll gladly put them to sleep with his fists.
  • The battle within: When he was younger, he showed interest in psychology, and probably would have ended up studying for it if he didn't dropped school for boxing. He's read about it, and knows just enough to get in other people's nerves, which he will definitely do in his matches.
  • "Headbanger:"If his sense of fashion and entrance music weren't enough to go by; his favourite genre is classical metal, and hard rock, he evens know how to play the guitar (not that good at it). He liked Evanescence and Linkin Park a lot, complete with a goth phase... Don't ask.
