I've heard mixed opinions for a while about getting a title/ppv scene going. There are many that want to get started soon. But there are also many that think we should take time to allow more people to develop their characters and stories and to garner a bigger user base with more active members before moving forward with that.
This post details plans that are an attempt at a compromise between the two.
Disclaimer: I say this a lot, or rather I try to, but I thank each of you guys for being part of this community and helping it come this far and beyond. I made LAW in the hopes that people would help it grow and prosper and I'm really happy to see it come this far. As with all other things, please feel free to offer input on these ideas and tell me whether or not they're things you can or want to get behind.
The ideas being pitched in this post are by no means an attempt to overshadow or overlap with other people's events. As it stands now, we have user xalex's tourney in the works whenever he and the people that expressed interest decide to move forward with it. And we have user Devilish's Tokyo Brawl in a similar state. What I'd like to pitch should have enough leeway that it shouldn't require you to drop any of the other events mentioned in order to make time for this stuff.
End of Disclaimer
Middleweights. By far the most popular type of character to make thus far. At the time of this post, there are 84 middleweight wrestlers, more than double that of any other given weight class. Because the majority of folks voted for a weight belt in this poll while informed that middleweight would be most likely chosen as the first one, we will attempt to go that route. At some point in the future, I would like there to be a middleweight tournament to determine the inaugural champ. But for now, what I propose is a qualifying round.
If you go to this section of the site, you'll find an area where you can have a match to enter your girl into the middleweight championship tourney. You can start this match at any time, just like all matches in the Special Events section. Do not be intimidated by the message that says you need mod approval. Just submit the first post of the match and more than likely, I'll approve it and it will be posted. So if you have a middleweight girl that you'd like to have in contention for the LAW Middleweight Championship, please find an rp partner and start a qualifying match with them in the section I linked previously. The winner qualifies to compete in the rest of the tournament with other ladies who qualify. You'll be allowed to begin your match up from this present moment up until around maybe mid or late August. If possible, I'd like all qualifying matches to finish before late September/Early October.
Once your girl has become qualified, she will be added to the list of qualified participants. A list which I will keep updated in this post.
I like this approach for several reasons:
- It gives everyone time to build their girl and create stories for her going into the tourney.
- You have a pretty decent amount of time to take things at your own pace and start your qualifying match whenever you'd like.
- Because there are so many middleweights, finding someone to have a qualifying match with shouldn't be too difficult in theory.
- Qualifying for a championship tournament is an achievement in and of itself. It gives you something to write in the profile under your girl's accomplishments/achievements/etc section.
- Because finishing a match is a requirement to be in the rest of the tourney, it should encourage active posters to join and help prevent the entire tourney from being slowed down too much.
- We have the flexibility of starting the tourney and allowing characters to fight their first rounds while others are still trying to qualify. For example, if we have 4 qualified participants, but others are still trying to qualify, the 4 can compete in two 1 on 1 matches to help move the tourney along without having to wait on everyone else on the site to finish their qualifying matches.
- And finally, if all goes as well as I hope it will, we'll have most of this sorted out in time for our first ppv, which I'd like to take place in mid-October, or slightly after.
I don't have a ton of details for the ppv. We can hash those out a little later. For now, the only thing I know I'd like is for it is for the pre-show to be a match to determine our inaugural Loser's Champion. We'll simply take the two wrestler with the most losses (who's users are willing) and have them fight it out to determine LAW's figurehead for worst wrestler. The belt will come with additional detriments like a pay cut, and so on. I don't know how much more we'll be able to fit into it, but we have a fair amount of time and some pretty cool people so I'm sure you'll come up with ideas. And when you do, feel free to pitch them to me as I've pitched my ideas to you for consideration. And as always, have fun and have some awesome rp's
