Middleweight Championship Tournament and PPV Plans

Unread post by winner3 »

Hey everyone.

I've heard mixed opinions for a while about getting a title/ppv scene going. There are many that want to get started soon. But there are also many that think we should take time to allow more people to develop their characters and stories and to garner a bigger user base with more active members before moving forward with that.

This post details plans that are an attempt at a compromise between the two.

Disclaimer: I say this a lot, or rather I try to, but I thank each of you guys for being part of this community and helping it come this far and beyond. I made LAW in the hopes that people would help it grow and prosper and I'm really happy to see it come this far. As with all other things, please feel free to offer input on these ideas and tell me whether or not they're things you can or want to get behind.

The ideas being pitched in this post are by no means an attempt to overshadow or overlap with other people's events. As it stands now, we have user xalex's tourney in the works whenever he and the people that expressed interest decide to move forward with it. And we have user Devilish's Tokyo Brawl in a similar state. What I'd like to pitch should have enough leeway that it shouldn't require you to drop any of the other events mentioned in order to make time for this stuff.
End of Disclaimer

Middleweights. By far the most popular type of character to make thus far. At the time of this post, there are 84 middleweight wrestlers, more than double that of any other given weight class. Because the majority of folks voted for a weight belt in this poll while informed that middleweight would be most likely chosen as the first one, we will attempt to go that route. At some point in the future, I would like there to be a middleweight tournament to determine the inaugural champ. But for now, what I propose is a qualifying round.

If you go to this section of the site, you'll find an area where you can have a match to enter your girl into the middleweight championship tourney. You can start this match at any time, just like all matches in the Special Events section. Do not be intimidated by the message that says you need mod approval. Just submit the first post of the match and more than likely, I'll approve it and it will be posted. So if you have a middleweight girl that you'd like to have in contention for the LAW Middleweight Championship, please find an rp partner and start a qualifying match with them in the section I linked previously. The winner qualifies to compete in the rest of the tournament with other ladies who qualify. You'll be allowed to begin your match up from this present moment up until around maybe mid or late August. If possible, I'd like all qualifying matches to finish before late September/Early October.

Once your girl has become qualified, she will be added to the list of qualified participants. A list which I will keep updated in this post.

I like this approach for several reasons:
  • It gives everyone time to build their girl and create stories for her going into the tourney.
  • You have a pretty decent amount of time to take things at your own pace and start your qualifying match whenever you'd like.
  • Because there are so many middleweights, finding someone to have a qualifying match with shouldn't be too difficult in theory.
  • Qualifying for a championship tournament is an achievement in and of itself. It gives you something to write in the profile under your girl's accomplishments/achievements/etc section.
  • Because finishing a match is a requirement to be in the rest of the tourney, it should encourage active posters to join and help prevent the entire tourney from being slowed down too much.
  • We have the flexibility of starting the tourney and allowing characters to fight their first rounds while others are still trying to qualify. For example, if we have 4 qualified participants, but others are still trying to qualify, the 4 can compete in two 1 on 1 matches to help move the tourney along without having to wait on everyone else on the site to finish their qualifying matches.
  • And finally, if all goes as well as I hope it will, we'll have most of this sorted out in time for our first ppv, which I'd like to take place in mid-October, or slightly after.
That brings me to my next point. There are a few of you who feel strongly about having a ppv sooner rather than later. But there are also those who would much prefer to wait till later. I hope that setting things in motion with qualifier for a championship tournament is seen as a step in the right direction for people on both sides of the spectrum.

I don't have a ton of details for the ppv. We can hash those out a little later. For now, the only thing I know I'd like is for it is for the pre-show to be a match to determine our inaugural Loser's Champion. We'll simply take the two wrestler with the most losses (who's users are willing) and have them fight it out to determine LAW's figurehead for worst wrestler. The belt will come with additional detriments like a pay cut, and so on. I don't know how much more we'll be able to fit into it, but we have a fair amount of time and some pretty cool people so I'm sure you'll come up with ideas. And when you do, feel free to pitch them to me as I've pitched my ideas to you for consideration. And as always, have fun and have some awesome rp's :)

Some quick FAQ's for middleweight qualifiers cause I'm sure I'll get a lot of these questions. Hopefully I can shed light on them here before they're asked. If you have more questions that aren't answered, feel free to ask.

Q: So how does posting the match work?
A: Go the middleweight qualifier section under special events and post a start a qualifying match with an rp partner. Whichever girl wins earns the right to compete in the rest of the tournament.

Q: It says I need mod approval, can I still post the match?
A: Yes. Post it, I'll approve it. If I don't, I'll let you know why and you can try again.

Q: Do both girls have to be middleweights?
A: For the middleweight championship tournament qualifier? Yes, please.

Q: How do we decide who wins?
A: You and your rp partner do for the qualifiers, same as a normal match. This one will be in Kōrakuen Hall/The Tokyo Dome, though. So treat it like it's a big fight, similar to a ppv.

Q: My girl competed, but lost her match. Can she fight another to try again and qualify?
A: Nah, fam. Sorry. When the entire tourney is done, though, I'll post a breakdown of the tournament and show the results of the qualifiers, so she'll be represented/shown in some form. But she doesn't get to try twice. You qualify or you don't.

Q: One of my girls competed in a qualifier and lost. Can I have another middleweight on my roster compete in a qualifying match?
A: Yes, yes you can.

Q: My girl won her qualifier match. Can I have another middleweight on my roster compete in a qualifying match?
A: As long as the other girls on your roster lose, yes. That would be a huge help to others and would be a great way for you to give back to the community and help out those who are looking to qualify.

Q: Can more than one girl on my roster qualify?
A: No.

Q: What type of match should the qualifier be?
A: Standard match won by pin fall, submission, knockout, count-out, or disqualification.

Q: I won't finish my match in time. Could I have more time?
A: I'm gonna try to be strict with this, so odds are I won't allow more time and ask you to rush your match to completion or not take part in the tourney. By posting this months in advance, I would hope that I've given everyone ample time.

Q: How will the tournament be booked? Will you be choosing the results for the entire thing?
A: I'll hash out those details with the people who qualify for the tourney.

UPDATE: I'm going to add this to the front page of the website so that it gets more visibility.

The last day to begin a qualifier match will be August 1st, 2017. If you want to get your middleweight girl into the Middleweight Championship Tournament, or you'd like to help someone else get their girl in, you have until August first to begin your match. After that date, I will no longer approve matches for the qualifiers.

Thank you again to everyone that's participating. You're all a huge help.

SECOND UPDATE: The deadline has passed. I will no longer be approving matches for the middleweight qualifiers. The only characters that will be allowed in the tourney will be those who finish and win their qualifier matches.

The deadline for people to finish their qualifier matches is tentatively mid-September for now. We'll see based on how active people in the qualifiers are and how often they post/prioritize posting to their qualifying matches.

Small miscellaneous update: if you scroll up, you'll see that I've added a list showing each currently qualified girl. There's also a short description of who she beat to qualify and how she beat them. I'll be sending out pm's to people that qualified likely tonight or tomorrow (12-24 hours from now in my current time zone). As always, thanks again everyone who's participating and making this possible. It's going really well. Let's try to keep up this pace :)

PENULTIMATE UPDATE: This will also go on the front page of the site later in the day when I get to chance.

After consulting everyone who still has a qualifier match in progress and reaching a consensus, we've agreed that September 18th is a day everyone can consent to. Therefore, September 18th, 2017 will be the deadline for the completion Middleweight Qualifiers and for qualifying for the Middleweight Championship tournament. All matches completed after this date will not result in entry into the tournament. Bear in mind that time restrictions will exists for each round in the tournament, as well.

Tournament matches between participants that have already qualified may begin prior to this date. When I sort that out, I'll message people and begin setting up those matches.

Thanks again to everyone participating. I hope people are enjoying participating/spectating. I'll send a final update when the deadline comes.

Final Update for Qualifiers: We're at the deadline and I feel that every match that is still in progress won't finish in the next 16 hours. So the Middleweight Qualifiers are officially over. I'll be sending out pm's to participants and taking steps to begin the first round of the Middleweight Championship Tournament sometime between today and tomorrow.

Thank you again to everyone that put in the time and effort needed to partake. I hope all of you enjoy the tournament. And I hope that everyone watching the tournament unfold is happy with the event as well.

Thanks again everyone (^_^)
