Yuki Kazikura stood behind the curtains, taking in slow, deep breaths - it was the best she could do to try and keep herself calm. Because she desperately, desperately needed to keep herself calm right now.

In just a few moments, she would be called out to the ring, to meet her opponent, Angelina Tarrant, in the next scheduled match. And the match that was to come next was, without a doubt, going to be the most pivotal moment in Yuki's life to date. She thought back on the time she challenged Lightweight Champion Aoi Fukiwara, and how, for all the pent-up anxieties she might've had going into it, that match seemed downright quaint compared to what she was in for now.

There were no championships on the line this time. But there was something that, for Yuki, meant even more than any championship.

It wouldn't be her first match against Angelina Tarrant. That first match hadn't even been all that special - but it had set off a cascade of dominoes that led Yuki here. It had been a long and hard-fought battle, one where Yuki had thought she had Angelina under control, only for the redhead to snatch victory out of her hands at the very last minute. It was a defeat that left Yuki disgruntled and dejected - but, at the end of the day, it was just one frustrating loss in a string of frustrating losses. It wasn't the match itself that stuck with Yuki so much as the context it was in, and all the matches like it that had come before.

Or at least, that was what she'd thought.

Yuki wanted to move on. She'd even said as much. But even if Angelina had won, she wasn't content to let that be the end of the story. She'd somehow tracked down where Yuki lived and followed her to her house, inserting herself into a normal, everyday scene of domestic peace - and when Yuki's back was turned, she stole her high school yearbook. Some time later, they ran into one another at a train station, where Angelina had pushed Yuki all the way over the edge, provoking a fight that had ultimately led to Angelina throwing Yuki's yearbook onto the train tracks and escaping in the confusion. Just beating her in a match wasn't good enough for Angelina - the redhead wanted to control, to own and to sculpt, every one of Yuki's thoughts, fears, and impulses. She wanted to make sure she wouldn't feel safe anywhere she went - to convince herself that Angelina was always watching, and always ready. Even here, with the two of them in Austria, Angelina wanted Yuki to know just how vulnerable she was around her. Not just that, she wanted to plant the seeds of doubt about Yuki's character in the minds of the general public, and even in her own family - to convince them she really was the psychopath Angelina seemed so convinced that she was. She was out to shatter Yuki's confidence, and the world's confidence in her. And at least in the case of Yuki herself...it seemed to be working.

Even when it came to matches she wasn't even in, Angelina wanted her presence to be felt. During the Apex qualifiers, when Yuki had a match against Shimmerlace Snuggleblossom, Angelina had shown up at the end to attack the Feychild, making sure Yuki wouldn't leave without a keen awareness that she was next. And when it came time for Apex itself, Shimmerlace and Angelina had a match of their own - an I Quit match that showcased just how brutal Angelina could really be, with her slashing the face of an unresponsive Shimmerlace before going to gouge out her eyes. That had been the point where Yuki couldn't take it any more. That was when she knew she had to step in, just to do something about Angelina before someone got killed - and for her trouble, she had ended up taking a piece of broken glass to her throat, one that had been milimeters from a fatal laceration.

And yet, despite all of that, it was the challenge Yuki faced now that seemed most daunting of all. Angelina had challenged her to a rematch. And that rematch would be on her terms - a cage match at Fight the LAW, contended under Loser Leaves Town rules. That meant that if Yuki won, she would've put a stop to Angelina's menace once and for all, driving her out of the company. But if Angelina won...Yuki's career in LAW was over.

Yuki never felt like her back was up against a wall quite as much as it was right now. Wrestling was what she lived for. It was the one thing that gave her fulfilment in her life - the one thing that truly made her feel like she'd found her place; that she was where she needed to be. A prodigy from a young age, the wrestling press had extolled her accomplishments before she was even out of high school, and she had been striving to live up to that reputation ever since. Whether she succeeded or failed in a match meant so much more than her record - to Yuki, being able to win in a match, to prove that she had that potential in her, was a validation of the image she had built for herself. But if she lost now...she wouldn't have that. She wouldn't have anything. She would be forced to find a place for herself in a world she never quite felt like she truly belonged in, and that was a thought that intimidated her.

To say nothing of the fact that it was Angelina, or that it was in a cage. After what she'd seen her to do Shimmerlace, Yuki didn't even know if she could say she would make it out of the cage in one piece, whether she won or lost. She didn't even know if she could say she'd make it out alive.

But...she still had to do it. She'd made that pledge to herself, and to the world. Yuki knew Angelina was trying to make her crack. She knew she wanted her to be afraid. And the best way she could stand against her, and take back power for herself, was to prove she wouldn't be afraid. But with all she was up against...that would be a lofty task indeed.

All she could do was take in a deep breath, trying to ground herself. Getting anxious wouldn't solve anything. Yuki needed to be ready. More than any other match, this was a match she couldn't afford to lose.

"Coming first to the ring, from Yokohama, Japan!! Standing at 5'4! Weighing 118 pounds! YUKI! KAAAAZIKURAAAA!!"

As she heard the announcer call out to her, Yuki looked back at the ramp and took a deep breath. There was no time to worry any more. If she was going to stand up to Angelina, she was going to have to get out there and do it...whether she was ready to or not.

Yuki stepped out onto the entrance ramp and into the lights, raising her fist in the air. The arena burst out into cheers - she was a fan-favorite, and when she rarely made trips outside of Japan, the fans here in Austria were more eager than ever to have a rare opportunity to see her in person. Yet, Yuki didn't stop to smile at them, or sign any autographs, slap any high-fives, or pose for any pictures. The moment her eyes settled on the ring, they narrowed in a look of pure, single-minded purpose. She took in a breath and her fists tightened at her sides, and she began to storm down the aisle toward the ring. Nothing could distract her now. Every thought and every effort had to be directed toward winning this match - she stood far, far too much to lose if she didn't.

It was Angelina’s turn.

A floor of fog began to pour out across the stage. Angelina, for her part, had been waiting in her place behind the stage. Not much by choice. The crowds were no longer welcoming to her. When she tried at a concession stand, she got heckled as a girl who chopped up a face, popped eyeballs, sliced a throat and stole so many fucking things. A lot of it is fake claims. The trend had started ever since her apex match with Shimmer.

They responded to her differently. Whereas, before, supporting the pirate was edgy and cool, buying into the stunts and magic of underdogs—to something that gets you surrounded by marks, assaulted and scowled at because it meant supporting a controversial and legally questionable demon. It started affecting her beyond the wrestling world into day-to-day life. More people were looking at her differently. Treating her with more caution or being told to leave. More stares. More stops by local police patrols to check her bag.

Austria was a break from that. At least when it came to the Festival and Salzburg. Anyone not a wrestling fan tended to treat her fine. She just wished she knew enough German.

So what? She thought.
Everything would be fine in the long-run. She had control of her destiny on this very night, with a rat trapped inside a cage that she can maim. Once Yuki was gone, then everything beyond would be like a pot of gold. The Lightweight Division would be hers to pillage with its top defender defeated and removed, as would the rest of LAW in due time. An unsinkable ship of Maraudin’ fun.

Just needed to get through tonight.
And destroy Yuki Kazikura.

.

The pirate anthem came to life with its rhythmic guitar pedals and melody. It signalled a wave of thumbs down and boos. Visceral frowns from the front-row and a thrust of middle fingers as Angelina came into view, riding on her skateboard across the fog. It made it look like she was hovering, as the fog covered her ankles and the board itself. She stomped on her board’s tail at the ramp’s start. The nose came up through the fog. On her shoulder, there was her purple bat, wrapped in razor wire and labelled ‘NUTCRACKA’

She was dressed in a two-piece set with an expensive tailored coat. A dark-grey leather with a golden pattern and white inner-lining at her wrists, covering arm sleeves that hooked on her middle finger and up to her mid bicep. She had shorts with a knotted rope from the belt to the bottom of the legging. And thigh-high black stockings that led down to thick black leather boots. Her chest was in a white silk wrap.

Angelina hit the ramp with her usual momentum. She split the fog as it rolled beneath her wheels and spun into a tailwind. The cage itself was monstrous and thirty feet high. It took about half of the ringside. Just wide enough to include the steel steps from corner to corner. Meaning she couldn’t quite carve around the edge.

Her foot went into the tail’s pocket and shifted it so the wheels turned forty-five degrees to become lateral. She leaned back and slid, stopping a hair’s away from the cage. Then she got off and entered the cage itself, bat in-hand and scaling the steps, entering the ring not long after.

Her theme faded. Potentially for the last time.
But she didn’t think of that nor of nostalgia. Just Yuki and her unbroken body.

“Say goodbye to all this yet?” She asked. A faint smile developed.
“And I don’t mean just the crowd and the ring.”

And there she was.

The moment Yuki saw the first glimpse of red hair and horns from the entrance ramp, something tightened inside of her. Her breaths slowed, while her eyes widened on the ramp, and her heart skipped a beat in her chest. From the moment she walked into this match, Yuki knew that she was backed into a corner. She couldn't run any more. Tonight would be the night she would have to end the threat Angelina posed to LAW, once and for all, or else she would go down trying. She knew that from the start - and seeing Angelina right in front of her could only reiterate that even more. Yuki felt more in danger, in this match, than she ever had in her wrestling career. Quite possibly even her life. Even when she'd been hanged by the throat and had her forehead sliced open, even when she had taken a piece of glass dangerously close to her jugular, she never quite felt as much in danger as she did now. She had so much more to lose. If she'd died then, it would at least all be over - here, she stood to lose everything her life stood for, and then be faced with picking up the pieces.

But...it was precisely because of the threat she faced that Yuki knew she couldn't run away. It was down to this, and it was far too late to turn back. She needed to show the world, Angelina, and herself that went push came to shove, she wasn't going to let herself be intimidated by it. She couldn't reason with Angelina. She couldn't expect any mercy from her. She didn't want success or fame or recognition, like anyone who could be understood - the only thing she cared for was sewing chaos. The only thing Yuki could do, then, was to stand in its way. And she had to do that - whether she was ready or not.

Her heart was pounding, but as Angelina settled in the ring, Yuki slowly strode toward her, her fists clenched tightly at her sides to try and calm her nerves. She couldn't let anyone see how nervous she really was, especially not Angelina herself. Her eyes never left the Marauder, staring straight through her. As they came face to face, Yuki's eyes locked on hers, never once blinking or looking away, and she thrust her modest chest confidently against Angelina's own, asserting her presence. She wouldn't be moved. She was going to bring the fight to Angelina!

"Whatever happens now...happens," Yuki huffed, trying not to think too hard about the consequences if she came up short. "The only thing I know...is that I won't be letting you take everything away from me. Not any more."

Yuki looked prepared.

More than she ever saw the woman. She, who was always like a skittish cat that frequently peaked out her box to take a swat. But Yuki’s instincts put running off first. Holding things in. Being congested and unaggressive until you ripped that shit out of her. This seemed different.

The mood she sensed…
Made her face warm.
And Angelina wasn’t afraid at all to smile as they stood eye-to-eye. Let her face get a dose of pink as their chests touch. Her chest started to thump and feel the adrenaline while her tummy fluttered thinking about the times ahead.

Yuki’s eyes, in her hands. A career taken. A trophy that shined brighter than the North Star.

She can only imagine the fallout of ending one of LAW’s most prestigious Lightweight careers. Perhaps the number two after the Champion herself. Gone, in a snap. By someone who didn’t fuckin’ belong. Said so by Queen Psycho herself. So what about losing? Angelina didn’t have a second worry about that fall. She just wanted to climb this mountain. Even if her hands are sure to break.

“You’re right,” Angelina nodded, then grinned with teeth, “Because this time, there won’t be anythin’ left to take. Undahstand me? Because if ya don’t, you’ll make mom and dad cry. As will everyone who believed ya side of the story.”

She can only lean in further now, putting her lighter weight against them to enact a light push. Her hands behind her back. The referee now stood by them, trying to gesture them apart. What appears like a test was actually just to taunt…

“Get to your cornah, Psychopath.”

It was down to this now. No turning back. Yuki just had to face the future - and whether she was ready for it or not, that future was swiftly approaching. Yes, of course, she was afraid. There was a lot on the line if she lost this match - with what Angelina was threatening her with, she was fully prepared for it to be more than just her career - and there was no room for failure. Not for the sake of the match, and not for herself; Yuki knew that against an opponent like Angelina, she could never forgive herself if she let herself freeze up or if she didn't give it her all. Angelina had made many a grisly promise, and, knowing the Marauder as much as she did, Yuki wouldn't put it past her to deliver on them.

But she was done worrying. She'd grown numb to the fear, and the anxiety, and she had come out the other side, ready to devote herself solely to this match. All she knew was that she was going to give Angelina the fight she deserved. And when Angelina threw her words her way...Yuki went tense, yes. Her muscles held firm and rigid, and her fists balled tight at her sides as she felt Angelina's weight bump into hers. But she wouldn't back down. She only leaned her head in to rest her forehead against the Marauder's own; her gaze was fixed and unblinking. She didn't have it in her to be afraid any more.

"I understand," Yuki said, biting her lip. She knew that Angelina wanted to get underneath her skin, to get her rattled, to make her feel vulnerable and unsafe. But Yuki was past caring about that. All she knew was that she needed to prove Angelina wrong - and that was exactly what she was prepared to do. "That's why I'm gonna win."

With the referee gesturing Yuki to the corner, the raven-haired girl backed away. But she walked backward to get there, her eyes never leaving Angelina in the process. She cracked her knuckles as she stared her down, letting out a huff and sinking into a stance. No time to waste, she told herself. Everything to gain. And everything to lose.

*DING DING DING*

With the ring of the bell, Yuki could feel her heart quicken in her chest. But she just took in another breath - she wouldn't let it get to her! She took one step closer toward Angelina, raising her hands to prepare a grapple, and leaning in just a little bit closer. She had to stay calm for now, she told herself, and fight defensively - that was what she was good at. Even then, though, Angelina wasn't going to make it easy...

Meeting a set of determined Kazikura eyes was nothing new. But it was earlier than usual. She had come to know this girl to cycle between a set of insecurity and unsure feelings at every dial and confrontation. But it seemed like the ring was one place where the fire was a sanctuary. It had been so long, she nearly forgot. One had to wonder, though…

Would Kazikura be able to give off that same energy as she does now when her eyes were missing? Now that was a fuelling question. It fired her up thinking about it.

So she retreated in kind. Except she turned around and walked in more of a casual loop to get towards her corner, unloading her bat off shoulder. She leaned her bat with the tip on the mat and the handle against the middle turnbuckle pad.

Empty-handed it shall be. She looked back at her opponent. The referee, satisfied, came in with the bell.

And then the two closed in. They circled intently. Angelina’s scowl paired with eyes hellbent on bloodlust. She felt a pleasant spark of adrenaline, but otherwise was calm and in her element. Her stance was more bladed than Yuki’s. Her pointed shoulder was a defence against Yuki’s grappler posture, aimed at the farthest arm so she couldn’t exploit her backside. Then they came closer. Inch by inch.

Angelina swatted away attempts to grapple using her forward arm.

Instead. She went for a grander prize to start off. She attempted to breach Kazikura’s stance to grab her collar with a quick shuffle closer. She curled her fist so the fabric was tugged into the depths of her clenched palm. Then she swung with her unused arm. A bare-knuckle punch straight to the face!

Re: Yuki Kazikura vs Angelina Tarrant - Loser Leaves Town Cage Match

As she lifted her hands and stepped in closer to Angelina, Yuki prepared herself for the worst. She wanted this to be simple enough - she wanted to go in for a lockup and feel out Angelina's strength and her stance, finding the right opportunities to make her move. She had grown and trained plenty since their last confrontation, and she had no doubts that Angelina would as well. If she was going to deal with this new Angelina, in a match with this much on the line, Yuki wanted to know what she was in for.

But of course, it wasn't going to be that easy. Yuki herself knew that. The biggest mistake she could make was expecting Angelina to behave like a rational opponent - like someone she could expect and anticipate and predict. But Angelina wasn't that. Angelina was an agent of chaos. At every moment, at every step, Yuki needed to be prepared for anything. And right as the match began, Angelina was going to assert that as much - when she grabbed hold of Yuki, and lashed out with a punch right to the face!

"GAAH-!!" The blow landed with the sound of a hollow clunk, and Yuki's head was thrown backward. Her body dipped lower, her hair swinging behind her in an arc. For a moment, she began to waver and buckle at the knees - but Yuki didn't go down. If that was how Angelina wanted to fight...she'd give that to her!

Clenching her teeth with a hiss, Yuki grabbed for Angelina's shoulder in turn. She dug her heels into the mat, going to steady herself; she pushed herself back upright, using Angelina to brace herself. Then, she would swing out with her elbow, attempting to cut a blow right across the Marauder's jaw! There would be no time for calculated analysis and back-and-forth push and pull in this lockup. They were just going to unload on each other with all their might!

Angelina came in expecting the time of her life wrapped up in Hell. While Yuki accepted her place in this stake, she placed her own back here. She was willing to take this gamble if it just meant prying every ounce out of her opponent, with no more chickenshit to hide behind.

So, yeah. That first punch felt good. Her knuckles didn’t like it, but that only drove her to punch again. However, FIRST, she’d need to eat the rebuttal. Her shoulder grabbed and then Yuki came whipping back with the elbow. “GNN!!” Her head snapped to the side and she braced her stance wider. Spittle was knocked loose on her lower lips and she closed the corresponding eye when the pain inside her cranium flared up like a migraine.

The grip on Yuki’s collar kept her relatively stable. There was only so far she can lean back before tugging her along to readjust. But she reset, moving her jaw around before…

She grinned, and made a growl. “Lets FUCKIN’ GO!”

Then swung again with another punch. Square on the nose.

She tried to roll this into some momentum. After one punch, the skin around her nose curled up as she sneered. She felt the steam in her gut propel her into feeling invincible. Her heartrate doubling as she kept in a roar. She went wild. Swing after swing after swing. An endless barrage like an artillery battery. No defence whatsoever. Stationery. Only carnage.

Re: Yuki Kazikura vs Angelina Tarrant - Loser Leaves Town Cage Match

Yuki knew Angelina. Over the course of a match, a few promos, and far more encounters backstage than she would've ever wanted, she had developed not an appreciation for the Marauder, but certainly an understanding. No matter how much Angelina tried to obfuscate herself, Yuki liked to think she had a pretty good idea of what made her tick. She craved carnage and chaos. Yuki was well aware that, when she threw a punch Angelina's way, the redhead was going to return it.

But then, she didn't go into this match without knowing full well it was going to hit her hard - whether she'd like it or not.

Angelina's punch slammed right into Yuki's face, hitting its target dead center. Her head snapped back, with her hair flying in an arc behind it; one of her feet was swept up from the mat, and her body dipped back through the air, though she still remained on her feet. It wouldn't slow Angelina down, though. Not one bit. She kept on swinging for Yuki, again and again. And each time her fist landed, it knocked the brunette's head this way and that.

But no matter how many punches she took, or how numb her face was growing under the continued assault, Yuki wasn't going to let this stop her. She knew this was going to be a fight - and she was here to win it! For every blow Angelina threw at her, Yuki was looking to trade it back. As her fingers dug deeper into Angelina's shoulder to stabilize herself in position, she kept on bludgeoning her, swinging for her chest, her sides, her face - everywhere she could. All she knew was that she wasn't going to let Angelina walk away with the satisfaction of landing a blow that wasn't repaid just as hard!

There was another part to this plan, though. In the back of Yuki's mind, she knew that the offense she was taking was steadily pushing her backward, toward the ropes. The more punches Angelina landed, the more steps back she took. She couldn't lose sight of that fact - she had a plan that hinged on it. Just as she came into range, as Angelina threw another punch, Yuki would try to catch it, her free hand cutting through the air as quick as the Marauder's own - and if she could intercept the blow, she would kick up her knee, delivering a few sharp strikes to Angelina's stomach before then turning and swinging her weight to the side, in an attempt to throw Angelina against the ropes with an arm drag!
