Claiming Responsibilty

Unread post by CaptainL »

A match had just ended, the ring was being cleared, and the fans in the arena were getting geared up for what was to be the next event on an exciting card of LAW action. But while everyone murmured to each other with their hopes and expectations for the coming bout, suddenly, all the lights in the arena went out, plunging the room into darkness.

At that, everyone went quiet, stunned into silence. As time passed, the fans began to question what was going on. Many began to theorize that the arena was experiencing problems with the electric wiring - but then, there had been no official announcement of technical difficulties. Their questions wouldn't be answered until moments later - when the big screen began to flicker to life, its dim glow shining through the darkness.

At first, the screen only showed static, and its crackling came over the speakers. But slowly but surely, an image began to cut through, first in split-second gaps in the interference before it stabilized. The image was as dark as the room around it, but the viewers could make out that they were looking into a room shrouded in shadows, with the outlines of furniture faintly visible. Then, a flickering light sprung into being, atop the wick of a candle. It was seated atop a desk, and behind that desk, only half-illuminated by the flame, sat a young woman in elaborate attire. Her face was placid and emotionless. And what was most striking was how, in the light, her face and hair stood out starkly against the darkness - almost perfectly white. From that pale white face stared a set of blood-red eyes, that fixed upon the camera as the woman began to speak.

"Good evening, LAW," she said, her voice even and calm. "I...am Kanon Fujiwara. Those of you who watched last week's show might have...a few questions on your mind. Yes, I imagine you must be asking yourselves just what you saw. Don't worry...I will explain that. All will make sense, in time."

A few hushed murmurs came from the stands again. Indeed, just last week, what was supposed to be a 2v3 Handicap No-Holds-Barred match between the Heartbreakers and the team of Jonathan Steele and Ryan Brown had become something else entirely. The two men had appeared more like demons than anything else. Nothing seemed to harm them, and they didn't even flinch in the face of danger. The Heartbreakers had fought with all they could to keep them under control, but not even the team of some of LAW's fiercest and most disruptive heels could stand up to this threat. Soon, the delinquents that had once run roughshod over the competition were cowering helplessly in their opponents' grasp. And strangest of all, Jonathan - or, the being who was supposed to be Jonathan - seemed to control them with his very thoughts, commanding them to rise or fall, or to obey his word, with only a touch of their foreheads. Much debate had ensued as to what they were seeing - if it was all just a matter of trickery and psychological warfare, or if something supernatural was at hand. But tonight...those questions would be answered.

"You've seen him. You've seen Father. The Anomaly, you may call him. I know him well. In fact, it was his presence here that called me to LAW - to this night I address you. Yes, I felt him. I knew he was calling out to me, wanting to be heard. Long have I known the secrets of the arcane. Long have I practiced the arts you deem unnatural. They called me mad. They called me a fool. Yet...I know the ways mere men cannot fathom. What is a fool? Only those who hide from what they fear, what they don't understand. No, I am no fool. They are fools."

Closing her eyes, Kanon sat back in her chair and placed her hands on the table. After a moment of sitting there in thought, as though channeling something, she stood up straighter, and her eyes snapped open.

"It was I who sent Father to LAW. To fulfill his purpose. I knew why he was needed. Don't you see it? He wants to be free. He wants us all to be free. Under him, we can see our true potential. We can be free of such...limitations. We can mean something. He knows how. I could tell that he wanted to tell this to us. To share his wisdom. And I want you, O people of LAW, to know that wisdom."

"The Heartbreakers found that out. They will know their purpose, in time. They will know that the path of their life has led them here, through a fate they cannot hope to change. They will find they will be...somethng greater. They will be instrumental in Father's great plan."

"And when it comes...we shall all rejoice. I will. They will. And...so will you."

Just then, Kanon dropped her head down against the table, as though she had fallen into a trance. The flame lingered, illuminating her pallid form for a few seconds more, before it too went out. And as it did, the lights in the arena blinked back to life, as though nothing had happened.

But...what would the future hold?
