Planting on her bare left foot a fifth time, she swung again, catching the dummy in front of her where a human neck would be on an opponent a few inches taller than she was. And seeing that result for the fifth time, she huffed. "What's up, Shay?" And as always, Rayna was quick to notice her huffing.
The three had rented a gym room together so they could train in private, and after doing some sparring to start, the three had decided to split up and wind down with slower workouts for their last couple of hours of booked time. Sha'ree had been working on her striking, but her kicks were coming up flat, lacking the height needed to reach a temple or cheek. She had been a national runner-up in the floor dance solely because of the way she could bend her legs. She had put on muscle and weight to wrestle, surely, but had her flexibility suffered so much? She was annoyed. But she didn't want Rayna fussing over it - she would try to find a way to help fix it, and Shay didn't want her to trouble herself.
So she stepped back from the dummy and waved her hand dismissively at her oldest friend. "Nothing, nothing. Working on something harder, and it's taking me a sec. What about you?" The best way to get Rayna not to worry about her was to get Rayna to talk about Rayna. The blonde was on the other side of the room along with Adel while the two ducked and dove and dived away from each other, practicing their ability to evade strikes. Adel already looked annoyed that Rayna had stopped mid-practice. "I think we're over here killing it." She looked to Adel for confirmation. The bluenette shrugged, but Shay could tell the patented sass was about to pour out.
"If someone we fight is only aiming near us, yes, we will absolutely 'kill it'."
The two bickered for a few seconds about whether they should be hitting each other - with, of course, Rayna being on the side of keeping careful and Adel wanting to make the practice more real to benefit - before Rayna wisely brought it to an end. "You know what - let's go get drinks! We needed a break, anyway."
Shay waved her off again. "You two go on. I'm going to keep working on this."
"Alright! What do you want?" She was already heading for the door. It took Adel another moment to get motivated, but her hands finally fell from her hips to follow.
"Just water."
Rayna's outstretched tongue told her that she thought the choice was bland and boring, but she left the room wordlessly with Adel in tow, leaving Shay to square up with the training dummy again. To take a break from failing her high kicks, she blasted the dummy in the side a few times with various roundhouse kicks, drowning out the sound of the door opening again, too soon for Rayna and Adel to have returned.
