June chastised the small crowd that had gathered in front of her, but she did so with affection. She couldn't entirely figure out what had happened in the last few minutes. She had started some deadlifts, and as always, the weight she had piled onto the bar had drawn some eyes. Few women in the League could deadlift three hundred pounds by the sound of it - not that she expected many to manage. Things happened that way when a woman had to build her career around strength and strength alone due to spending a few too many years overweight and deadlifting her own weight times two had become commonplace.
But June liked to talk to people who showed interest in her exploits, and the initial interest had quickly blossomed into an out-and-out display of her strength and prowess. No, not even a display... a challenge, and June loved to meet people's challenges. They had started by asking if she could manage four hundred pounds on the deadlift. She nailed it. They followed up by having her bend a fairly thick piece of metal. She had managed that, too. Then she had lifted a person on each shoulder. Then she had lifted the workout machinery itself. With each new feat, she felt more like Hercules completing his 12 Labors, and she kept going because more people kept wandering over and asking. They had grown louder, too, but June hardly noticed - she was enjoying herself too much, shining in the limelight.
Despite her chastising, she took the small exercise ball she had been asked to pop and squished it between her hands. "I think you want me to do this one just because of the way it's going to look," she joked, and the man who had given it to her didn't deny the point despite her squinting at him. The ball felt both worn and overinflated, so she thought she had a chance. "Here goes." Once she hugged the ball tightly enough to her chest that the cleavage it forced onto display became the stuff of pornography, June took in a deep breath and squeezed it with all the might in her arms, the muscles bulging with the effort.
Her little fandom started a "June" chant. Best day at the gym, ever.
