Backstage, Starlight could barely keep still.

Her boots bounced lightly against the floor as she leaned over the match docket for the third time, eyes gleaming beneath the overhead lights. Her opponent’s name stared back at her in bold letters…

"Blaze" she said out loud, letting it roll off her tongue just to see how it sounded with the right emphasis. Clutching her shinai to her chest as if the name itself was some taboo she was breaking with nobody around to witness her. "So cool... Gosh, what if she’s a fire-swallower? Or a firey-flamey magician! Or maybe-" her eyes widened, and she gasped softly, " -a superheroine of flame and fury, powered by a burning heart of passion at her core! ...Or a villainMy greatest rival yet!?"

Of course, she didn’t actually know any of that. But the possibilities were endless, and that was half the fun with just knowing the name and nothing more. She had idly doodled a few little flame designs around the name in red and orange glitter pen before leaving the corkboard it had been posted on. While she hated not knowing what surprise was, she loved surprises in that paradoxical kind of way.

The thought alone sent a thrill racing through her. She spun her shinai once in her hand, the polished wood gleaming under the fluorescents. "No matter what she is, I’m ready for her," Starlight said aloud to the empty hall, nodding firmly to no one. "If she burns bright, I’ll just have to shine brighter!"

And with that, she turned on her heel and marched toward the curtain, ready to show the world what she had.

burst through the curtain to a rising cheer. Her bright gear caught the beams as she stepped into view, her long ponytail whipping over her shoulder as she pointed her shinai skyward, energy and earnestness wrapped in glitter personality.

She twirled the shinai in a spinning flourish before darting down the ramp, tagging a few outstretched hands along the way. Her movements had rhythm, choreographed yet full of spontaneity, the stride of someone who wanted to make people smile.

Sliding under the bottom rope, Starlight popped to her feet in one fluid motion, the arena lights sparkling across her white and gold gear. She crossed to the center of the ring and, with a deep breath, began to perform.

She swept her shinai through the air in a crisp arc, followed by another, then a third, each slash punctuated by a spin or turn, her movements fluid and precise. The wood hummed faintly as she finished the display with a one-kneed stance, the tip of her weapon angled toward the entrance ramp in salute to her unseen opponent.

Standing tall again, she smiled and spun the shinai in her fingers before offering it ceremonially to the referee with a small bow. "Keep it safe for me, okay?" she said brightly. The referee gave her a somewhat confused look, reluctantly nodding. A member of staff was ushered over to take it, depositing the weapon in the timekeeper's area.

Now, with the crowd on her side and her energy brimming, Starlight turned to face the ramp, bouncing lightly on her heels. It was time to be just who this Blaze person was.

Natasha unexpectedly broke her trance. Her foot was fidgeting so hard against the floor her wrestling boots awoke her from her daydreaming. Man, she was nervous. This was far from her redhead’s tango, literally and metaphorically, but there was something about her new wrestling gig that she couldn’t find in her previous careers as a dancer and as a sensual wrestler. Everything suddenly felt too real and the challenge imposing. Yes, she might have spent some time working as a hentai wrestler for Club Exotica, but that was nothing more than an excuse for some guys and gals with money to burn to go and watch some sexy things tussling in oil or something. Now Nat was part of something way bigger and it showed in everything, from the beautifully crafted and comfortable attire she was checking for the thousandth time that night to the incredible facilities that housed the matches and trainings. Of course, worth of mention was the multitude of thousands gathering on the stands and everyone watching the broadcast at home. This would be her biggest public to the date. Nat was definitely nervous.

A knock on the door stopped her train of thought and a cute stagehand wearing a headset appeared to check on her. “Are you ready, Ms. Vaughn? You’re good to go in three minutes. You can watch your rival’s entrance from the gorilla position if you want.” What was with LAW only employing handsome guys and beautiful gals? Even the people behind the cameras were eye candy. “Y-yeah, I’m good to go!” Despite her best efforts to sound convincing, Nat stumbled on her words, which got a reaction from the woman who looked clearly overworked but looked at her with a funny smile and a raise of her brow. “That nervous, huh? Don’t be. It has been a good day, the crowd is eager for some action and you’re facing a cheerful rookie. Just get out there and have fun.” With these reassuring words echoing in her head Natasha smiled to the woman before walking to the gorilla position.

Once set behind the entrance curtain, Nat had a pretty comfortable spot from which she could watch her rival’s entrance. This would be her first look at what this woman called Starlight was about, and despite her plucky and energetic appearance Natasha choked when she noticed she was wearing some sort of Japanese wooden sword. The stagehand had described Starlight as “cheerful”, but Natasha was a little intimidated by the prospect of being hit with that thing by a ruthless rival. The world of pro-wrestling was full of performers willing to go up the ladder by any means, either by being true heroes of the ring, winning a lot of matches, or just earning a reputation, and the redhead was a little appalled of thinking she could be made a joke of by this woman’s weapon.

Finally, Natasha came back when she noticed the announcer introducing her. After rousing the crowd a little, her entrance theme started echoing and she made it on stage in the middle of that flamenco dance beat. The crowd reacted positively, cheering for her as she walked the ramp towards the ring, focusing in her next step and not interacting much, which gave her some aura of composure and elegance that went with her theme. After a walk that felt eternal, Natasha made it between the ropes and whipped her fiery mane, which flew around in shines of red and orange before she bowed to the crowd, ending her entrance with the roar of the public.

Natasha turned to her rival, her first close sight at Starlight. She was definitely cute and well built, a little shorter than her which could prove an edge to exploit, and man did she look nice. There was something about that woman that exuded enthusiasm and cheerfulness and the redhead remembered the stagehand’s words. It was showtime and no one wanted to lose time, so the referee was calling the two contestants to the center of the ring to go over the rules of the match. After they were done, Natasha decided to be the first one to talk, again trying to sound convincingly calm. “Starlight, huh? That’s a cool ring name.”, she started sincerely complimenting her rival.
