On the other hand, Kurenai was having a hard time bringing herself to care.

As much as she knew this would lead to bad consequences, as much as she knew it would incur the woman’s wrath, she decided it was absolutely worth it just to feel her hand against Faelyn’s face. She managed to get more force into the blow than she thought possible, and the look of utter shock on her foe’s face told her that one had surprised her just as much. For a moment, the room seemed to freeze, time slowed to a crawl, she swore she could hear her own heartbeat.

Then, down came the hammer. Suffice to say, Faelyn was quite capable of slapping much harder than Kurenai could, and her blow hit the ninjette’s face with a thunderous impact, making her ears ring. The world turned white for instant, and when she returned to reality, she did so with a pounding ache in her skull, as if her brain itself took the hit and was getting rattled about.

Straining, Kurenai moved mostly on instinct and tried to slap back, but there was hardly any force in her blow this time, her body too stunned to even properly make her muscles work in combination.
