We Are LAW 5

Unread post by winner3 »

Along with all the other announcements, please allow me to announce the next PPV, our annual We Are LAW! This time it's We Are LAW 5! I believe most folks that have been on the site for a while are pretty familiar with how PPV's work but there's always newcomers and people coming into these things for the first time so I'll try to take it from the top especially for you guys.

For those who already know the general process, I'll be adding matches via the table at the bottom of this post. We Are LAW 5 is tentatively scheduled for exactly one month from now on February 15th.

We currently have a few other events going on that I'd like folks to continue progressing before we dive in. If you are a current active participant in the Lightweight or Hentai title tourneys, or if you're a part of the LAW Rumble, or if you have an ongoing PPV match, please focus on progressing in your matches in those events. Doing so will help me give you more leeway towards participants in those events that want to sign up for matches for the PPV.

So what's PPV stand for? What are PPV's and what's the significance of We Are LAW?

If you're a pro wrestling fan you may already be familiar with the concept of PPV's. But there are definitely some folks that aren't or that haven't been fans for quite some time and that's okay. PPV stands for pay-per-view, meaning pay-per-view events. Big events for fight sports are typically sold in this fashion. It draws hype and makes companies a lot of money. A card is put together, usually with high-anticipated matches and big stars to sell people on the fights/matches. And that's the idea with wrestling PPV events in-universe with LAW as well.

We Are LAW is LAW's biggest PPV. You can think of it like LAW's wrestlemania if you're familiar with wrestlemania. This year it will run alongside the inaugural openweight title event LAW Apex, and other events that are still in progress like the Lightweight Classic Tournament and the H1 Climax/Hentai Title Tournament.

Why do we do PPV's and how do they work?

PPV's, Tournaments, and other types of events are typically just different means and mediums for RP'ers here to have fun. Both in-universe/kayfabe and out of continuity/irl, it's hype to do events in which many top stars and characters that are established or are trying to become more established meet up for the sake of putting on a major wrestling program/show. It grounds and connects characters in that everyone gets to be aware of major happenings in their stories and matches taking place at a particular time and venue related to the wrestling company they're all working for. Lots of people are invested in the stories and characters at LAW and events like PPV's are a way for that emotional investment to come to a head. PPV's are a great place for huge rivalries, feuds, and stories to begin or to wrap up.

There aren't many hard rules for PPV's but we can go through the rules that are there and expectations.
  • PPV matches are generally ones that you want to really matter for your characters involved. If you take on a PPV match, you're expected to see it through to completion. When you sign up for a PPV, if you have a PPV match that's currently in progress that's older than a year that doesn't look like it'll wrap up anytime soon, I may tell you not to take part in an upcoming PPV if it is determined that you are the reason the previous PPV match has stalled. I do make exceptions sometimes if there are extenuating circumstances, however.
  • Most PPV's are broken up into two sections, the undercard and the main card. Undercard matches are generally for less established wrestlers and rising stars. And main card matches are for bigger names and wrestlers that are a bit more established. Anyone may participate in an undercard match. Only wrestlers who have 3 or more completed matches may appear on the main card.
  • There is an expectation that championships will be defended on the PPV. It's not a hard requirement, but I generally try to make sure all championships are defended at each PPV. Championships are defended only on the main card, with the exception of the loser championship, which is defended only in the undercard. LAW PPV cards are ordered from the top down with the main event and highly anticipated matches being on the bottom of the card.

Awesome, how do I sign up?

In the past, I've asked people to just reach out to me while I maintain the card on the announcement post. There is a table down below to keep track of the matches set for the PPV. I'll update it as people request matches. But generally, you just arrange the match with a partner, sort out the details, and then tell me about it. I've just come back from a few life things and from working on a few LAW projects as you can see, and my notifications on the forum and on discord are backed up to high heaven. So please when you do reach out, especially during the course of the next week or so, please be patient with me, especially via discord if you choose to ping me there.

Please note that before I add any match to the card, I always check with everyone involved in the match if they're consenting to all the details of the match. You'd be surprised how many miscommunications I uncover by doing that.

More than anything, the goal with things is to have fun. So please try to commit to matches you know you'll enjoy. I'm sure this year's We Are LAW and LAW Apex will be just as stacked as our previous PPV's and events, if not more so.

I've updated the card with matches people have confirmed with me thus far. It is not final. If I made any mistakes or if I missed your match, please let me know. More matches to come as more people confirm with me.

You'll notice that some matches taking place at We Are LAW 5 count as Apex Qualifiers. If you would like to get a qualifier match done while also getting a PPV match in, please let me know!

Also if you are trying to make plans for Apex Qualifiers and Apex itself, you may find this spreadsheet useful

Credit and thanks to user @Devilish53 for going out of his way to create and update this! Also, a friendly reminder that you can start qualifier matches and even your apex matches by going here to start your qualifier and by going here to start your Apex match! You have around a year to get it all done! Feel free to take your time to plan your character's journey towards the greatest title LAw has to offer in the LAW World Openweight Championship!

PPV Announcement - We Are LAW 5

viewtopic.php?p=207370#p207370

Hello All!

Please find above the (hopefully) finalized version of the card for We Are LAW 5!

I will finish setting up and publishing the event in the PPV section during the day tomorrow (in my time zone it's an hour or so past midnight) and I hope to have the PPV ready for everyone by then. If I somehow missed your match or if I got any detail wrong, please message me on here or discord to let me know. If I don't respond, I'm probably asleep but I'll amend it when I wake up. Again, please make sure I didn't miss anyone. I'm very sorry if I did.

If you're reading this and you were working on trying to get something in at the last minute, I won't outright say no and I'll consider it but you better be on my good side and you'd better have a match you're happy to commit to if you have a last-minute request.

Like all PPV matches, please remember that you are expected to eventually finish the ones you sign up for. If you let it sit for a year or more, you may not be allowed to participate in PPV's the following year.

In my opinion, the card is quite stacked with very interesting, known, and appealing characters all throughout. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the matches play out and to seeing the stories that resolve and spawn from the events of We Are LAW 5! I hope everyone has fun with this one! If anyone needs anything, please let me know :)
