PPV Announcements

Unread post by winner3 »

Hey, everyone. I hope everyone's enjoying their holiday and I hope that you've all had time to spend chilling, relaxing, de-compressing, and bonding with your loved ones. As always, please remember that outside of this forum and outside of rp, we're all people who lead our own lives and search for our own happiness. We're a community and I'd like for us to remain strong, remain together, and remain amicable and nice to each other wherever and whenever possible :)

With that reminder out of the way, please be advised that this is an announcement thread concerning the next LAW PPV and a couple other things.
Hold up, I'm new. What is a PPV and how does it work?
PPV is short for pay per view (event). You can think of it the same way you would special event of real-life wrestling promotions. Matches and occurrences that happen during these events are usually held to a higher standard and usually entail of more than you would find in your usual weekly show. So aim to do the same thing in these types of events.

For the LAW-specific PPV info/attitude - you can think of these ppv events to be official site events where you can begin or end major stories/matches for your character's character development arc. This can be the climax or a feud, title challenge, or event a significant promo that happens in Korakuen Hall where LAW PPV's take place, or even elsewhere if the story you're going for demands it. What this does on some level is allow every character the opportunity to reference, relate to, or even insert themselves into events that affect LAW as a promotion. For example, maybe your character wants to become the hardcore champ and the hardcore champ was injured in the same ppv where they were going to become number one contender. Or maybe your character and another character are friends and wished each other luck in their respective ppv matches, and they meet up later in a thread right after the ppv to discuss their two different perspectives on the same event they both partook in. By having everyone acknowledge and relate to the events of the same ppv, LAW feels more like a whole organization rather than a series of isolated stories and matches. Or at least, I hope it does.

There's also the expectation that all champions able to defend their championships at the time do so during ppv events. And we'll be using this PPV and a couple of future ones to establish and set up new championships/champions.

Lastly, there is something of an expectation that if you do participate in an official PPV event, that you finish the match or segment you sign up for before attempting to join in on official events later. To be very highly specific: if you still have a ppv/official event match or thread (not a user-run event) that is one year or older and is still in progress, you will not be allowed to partake in future official events.

TLDR: ppv's are official events your characters can join in to highlight important parts of their stories and to make LAW feel more connected as a whole. Champions are expected to defend. And rp'ers are expected to finish their ppv threads.

  • Cool so what/when is the next PPV, anyways?
I'm glad you asked. Those of you who have been here a while might remember "We Are LAW 2018". It will be followed by its next yearly instalment next month, "We Are LAW 2019." You can think of it like the LAW's Wrestlemania. This will be our bigger PPV and we'll have a smaller but still significant mid-year ppv, likely with different themes each year. For now, we'll focus on the We Are LAW 2019. And it will be tentatively scheduled for February 1st, 2019 if everyone's alright with that.

  • Sounds good. Is there any info specific to this PPV?
Yes, actually. Starting with this ppv, LAW ppv events will be split into two sections, an Undercard and a Main Card. You think can of them the same way you'd think of the undercard and main card in boxing/mma. Or if you don't like that analogy, think of them the same way you would a pre-show and the regular show in wrestling ppv events. Of course, the main card is where you expect the bigger stars and more significant matches/happenings to take place, but I believe we benefit from having an undercard. There will be requirements to getting your character on the main card of the show. And the undercard gives users that are newer or less active a means to participate without having to subject themselves to those requirements. A main card also helps elevate the status of championship competition (except the loser belt), as well as help some of the more active, recognizable wrestlers have a platform to conduct their high-profile matches concurrently at the same event the same way you'd find in most real-life wrestling companies.

Lastly, this dichotomy helps pave a way for newer wrestlers to begin in the undercard and work their way up to the main card, adding to their stories and relatability to other rookie and veteran wrestlers who would likely be trying to do the same.

  • Ok I got it. So how do I have my girl qualify for the undercard or main card?
So for the undercard, as long as you don't have a PPV thread in progress that's more than a year old, you can feel free to sign up to have your girl participate in an undercard match or thread. Of course, you'll likely need to find a willing opponent or participant.

For the main card, in addition to not having a ppv match or thread in progress from a year or later, your character must meet the requirements of being an Elgible Contender/Challenger. While it's not mandatory to post to that thread for your character to compete in ppv's and championship matches, it helps the community keep track of who can and can't challenge for titles in the future. It also adds credibility/helps establish those characters. In order to qualify a character for main card competition, please have them complete 3 matches.

  • Understood. So how do I go about signing up? Are there any rules for that?
Comment on this thread, message me or reach out via our event planning discord server (link at the bottom of this post) and discuss which match or thread you want for the ppv and we'll hash it out. As far as rules go, you'll be given slots. Each user can be involved in, at most, 2 matches in the undercard and 2 matches in the main card. I'll post a table below to keep track of confirmed matches for everyone

  • Woah there's already stuff planned? How can that be?
Yes indeed! The lightweight championship tournament has been in progress the last several months and it will culminate in the main event of our We Are LAW 2019 PPV. Users are encouraged to involve themselves in threads to build towards or set up ppv matches/threads. You've got a solid month to do it so if you want to do something quick for set up, or if you've got a match or story currently in the works, now's a good chance to roll that into a We Are LAW match!

Our current agenda will consist of establishing an inaugural Lightweight Champion and (hopefully) establishing inaugural tag team champions.
  • I see we've got a match for the lightweight championship. What's going on with tag?
We had planned on doing an invitational tag gauntlet match to crown inaugural tag team champions. The idea is that two teams would start off a regular tag match, and the losers of that round would be replaced by the next team in line to repeat the process until only one team is left standing. I'd like to cap it off at maybe 4/5 teams and I'd like for those involved to be communicative and active when needed. Teams involved must have successfully completed at least one match. If you're interested in the match, or if you'd like to pitch your own suggestions please message me or join our event planning discord server (link is at the bottom of this post)
  • Alright! Things are happening! That was a lot of info but I think I've got all of it. I do have another question though.
Please direct your questions to yours truly either by replying in this thread or messaging me directly :)
