Name: Selene Marquez (uses surname “Strike” in her boxing matches)

Nickname: The Brazilian Devastator

Age: 29

Height: 6’2

Weight: 130 lbs.

Hometown: Brasilia, Brazil

Background:

Selene was born to parents that went into the Olympics to represent Brazil as her mother was a gymnast and her dad competed in weightlifting. Her parents met in the 1990 Summer Olympics both representing Brazil where Selene’s mother took the silver medal in a gymnastics competition. Her father placed lower than 5th in several weightlifting contests and her mother was attracted to her father’s flexibility and strength to lift heavier irons. Her mother and father talked after one night going out to a bar and that’s where they hit it off. Selene was born five years later after a drunk sex night and her parents tied the knot in 1997 after one year of engagement. After retiring from the Olympics to take care of their daughter, her father worked as a conservation manager while her mother stayed home to watch over Selene. Her father earned a good paycheck since he was also an inspector for Brazil’s nuclear power plants as well as an assistant manager at a state park.

Tradegy would strike in 2006 when Selene was 11 as her father developed a rare form of cancer and passed away in six months. This devastated Selene as she was depressed for two years not finding too much motivation for living life since her father was her rock. Her grades in school slipped and she was put inside a psych ward since she tended to have a bad temper when people tried joking with her. After a year of anger management classes, Selene was released at the age of 15 and her mother decided to homeschool her until she was ready to graduate at 18. Selene had no interest in pursuing college, but she did immigrate to America at age 22 in 2017 and pursued gymnastics. For three years, Selene mastered lots of flips and somersaults which earned her an instructor position at a gym in El Paso, Texas, where she currently lives.

A boxing coach was working out and saw how graceful Selene moved so he asked Selene if she would be up for sparring. Selene was a little confused upon being asked to spar with this older man and she never had much self-defense training, but he promised to teach her things and see how she could adapt. Selene took a fist fight with the man and she did get put down on her butt, but her counters were developing straight away and it impressed the coach enough to take her under his wing. This started Selene’s boxing career and she debuted at age 26 in 2021 in Houston. Selene won her first fight by spilt decision and rose the ranks becoming a multi-time boxing champion for the next four years. Selene’s current boxing record stands at 37 wins, 12 losses, and 8 draws. Selene has won 26 knockouts, 7 TKOs, 2 unanimous decisions, and her only spilt decision in her debut bout. Selene has suffered 8 knockouts and four losses by unanimous decision.

Selene was recently contacted by LAW scouts as she had interesting striking and countering experience they wanted to enlist for the roster so she hopped on a flight to Tokyo to sign on and be a coach.

Personality:

Selene has a warm heart of gold and values lots of dedication that she enlists in her students. Selene is a fair teacher and she is always eager to teach someone how to strike better or get around opponents with a much bigger reach. Selene can come off pretty cocky and smug mostly in the ring as her confidence shot through the roof when she laced on her first pair of gloves. Also, sports media call her one of the greatest female boxers of the modern era of the sport so she tends to think very highly of herself. Get to know her, though, and she’s a marshmallow of a person just being a warm and fuzzy friend with a very hot temper if you provoke her enough.

What Selene Offers:

Selene offers striking and countering training as it is what she is most known for when it comes to her matches. She doesn’t go easy on her students either letting them know they either get hit for real or don’t have the guts to step in the ring. Selene likes to take a realistic approach with her training and her aim is to make her students have no fear when it comes to getting hit. Some of her students have actually went on to take up boxing inspired by her and she likes to be very modest about it.
