Style: Powerful All Arounder (Puroresu) - Jungle Cat Hori is the consummate all-around wrestler. She is a jack of all trades and a master of none, though much of her moveset as a Wrestle Angel favored throws. Today, she is best described as a power wrestler who combines her athletic advantages with the wide arsenal that came with being a Wrestle Angel.
Strengths: In the past, Hori didn't use her athletic acumen to its full advantage. Today, Hori is in her physical prime – and she was already more athletic than most in her younger years! While her powerful legs were originally trained for the high jump, Hori has expanded her repertoire to rapid sprints and brutal kicks. Sakie is physically strong as well. While she would not overpower people much larger than her, she can certainly punch above her weight. Lightweights and all but the heaviest of middleweights are no problem for her to lift, though she often doesn't hoist opponents in the air for very long.
Most importantly, the Wrestle Angels were trailblazers in women's wrestling, and Sakie Hori was there from the very beginning. Though she didn't master any techniques, she trained in and saw all of them, and she got to wrestle eventual superstars like Mighty Yukiko, Panther Risako, and Blade Uehara. Hori might not look it to most people, but she knows more about wrestling than most.
Weaknesses: Despite being athletic enough to be a strong power wrestler in the lightweight division, Jungle Cat Hori still hasn't quite mastered any particular strategy or moveset. As a result, she sometimes has no technical strengths that she can draw on in a pinch, and targeting opponent's weaknesses is out of the picture unless it aligns with what she can do.
Additionally, while she is eager to demonstrate her newfound (and/or merely claimed?) ferocity and maturity through LAW's most risque matches, Hori is simply less experienced in those match types.
Basic Moveset:
- Dropkicks, especially missile and shotgun dropkicks
- Enzuigiris
- Suplexes, especially backdrops, exploder suplexes, and release suplexes.
- Lariats, especially short-arm, northern, and burning lariats.
- Knee strikes, especially pump, running, and step-up knees.
- Elbow strikes
- Hip attacks
- Leg drops
- Shoulder tackles and chop blocks
Spot Moves
Leopard Spot
A Spinning Side Slam/Black Hole Slam. Can be delivered via a rebound off the ropes, with a running start, or simply by pulling the short arm.
Jungle Throw
A reverse exploder suplex.
Hori Roll
A rolling modified cobra clutch. Thanks to Hori's power, the impact from this is harder than it looks. Can be used to transition into strikes, a submission attempt, or hentai moves.
Irio-nage
Named after Japan's unique wild cat. A spinning sit-out uranage.
Serval Special
With the opponent hanging over the ropes, Hori leaps out of the ring like only an elite high-jumper can before coming down hard with a leg drop into the apron!
Cat Nap
Right when the opponent thinks they have her, Hori kips up right into a lariat! Can be done as a burning lariat if the opponent isn't running at her.
Finishers
Pounce to Prey (submission)
A leaping Sleeper Hold, boosted in speed and range thanks to Hori's long-jump experience!
Sabretooth (pin/KO)
When just one power move to the back of the head isn't enough. An arm-trapped reverse lariat, followed by a short-arm backdrop driver.
Kitty Licks (hentai - NSFW)
Hori traps the opponent's head and arms from below before eating them out! Unlike some who do this move, Hori prefers to take her time and really draw out an orgasm – hence the less aggressive name.
“I'll show you what a Jungle Cat can do!”
Personality: Hori is a good-natured, sunny, and spirited woman. Despite this, she is still ambitious and driven to win – wrestling is fun, but it's also a sport! More than one opponent has let their guard down after hearing her give a cheery greeting, complete with a "nya~" at the end for good measure. She's also quite selfless, especially when it comes to animals; during her time as a Wrestle Angel, she cared for a number of stray cats in a nearby park because she wasn't allowed to bring them to the dorms.
Despite her cuteness, she is trying to bring a more mature and fierce energy to the LAW ring. Hori has worked hard to remove the "nya" tic from her speech, and she approaches her matches with a veteran's keen eye – just don't expect her to always succeed at toning down just how cute she is!
Biography: Sakie Hori was one of the original Wrestle Angels, having joined the popular joshi promotion near its inception. She was recruited out of school, where she was a record-setting long jumper. Old Wrestle Angels staff still share stories about the day Sakie ran into their headquarters with a notebook filled with ideas for cat-themed gimmicks. Eventually, she landed on Teddy Cat Hori as a ring name. It didn't take long for Hori to come into her own as a wrestler; her athleticism, cute disposition, and enthusiasm quickly won the audience's hearts.
From there, Teddy Cat Hori's star rose. A dedicated wrestler, she climbed the competitive ladder and popularity polls alike. She challenged for a handful of titles, most notably the prestigious IWWF Asia Tag Team Championship. Her caring soul led her to dive into the internal workings of wrestling as well. She served as a prefect in her promotion's dormitories, and she took sides in several major political feuds among the Wrestle Angels. However, she never made it past the mid card of the revolutionary joshi promotion, and she never won any of its few titles.
After many successful years at Wrestle Angels, Sakie made the difficult decision to step away to focus on starting a family. She married her longtime boyfriend, the founder of then-small independent promotion Twilight Pro Wrestling, and the two soon had a child. Despite Hori no longer having the time to dedicate herself to wrestling full-time, her passion for the sport remained undiminished. She occasionally wrestled in other promotions such as TPW and Pacific Women's Pro Wrestling.
Eventually, however, her husband's efforts to grow TPW and Sakie's own aspirations placed a strain on their marriage. The couple divorced, though they remain very amicable and plan to cohabit until their daughter goes to college. After the divorce, professional wrestling called out to the eager Sakie once more; LAW, of course, was all too happy to accept a former Wrestle Angel. Today, she has rebranded herself as Jungle Cat Hori in an attempt to grow her image beyond the cutesy mid-carder she once was.
Fun Facts:
- Sakie is half-Japanese and half-American.
- Hori's dream is to see a Bornean bay cat, which is one of the rarest, most endangered, and least-studied cats in the world.
- Sakie's favorite candy bar is…Meiji's Apollo. Did you think it was the Kit-Kat?
- Hori and her ex-husband occasionally still sleep together. Literally and, rarely, figuratively. The latter is always a mistake.
