History: All her life, everyone knew that there was something different about Kanon. Due to a rare genetic condition, she was born with albinism, possessing white hair, pale skin, and red eyes. Growing up, many of her classmates shunned and feared her, believing that her unusual appearance was a sign she had magical powers and could curse them. It didn't help that she came from a very traditional Japanese family, growing up under a grandmother who believed in ghosts and spirits. Even Kanon's parents believed her birth to be an omen, and avoided contact with her, leaving the girl to raise herself on her own.

It was under an enviroment like this that Kanon developed depression from a young age, feeling powerless to do anything in the world and unable to connect with others. But she decided that if everyone was going to fear her...she might as well embrace it. Not without some influence from those around her, she began to believe that her albinism made her especially gifted in the mystic arts, and she took a keen interest in the occult, collecting books of so-called spells and rituals and secluding herself in her room attempting to commune with spirits. Without much other input in her life to stop her from doing so, or to turn her to more productive pursuits, Kanon only grew more and more convinced that any powers she possessed were real - and if nothing else would convince her, when she was in high school, she decided to perform a ritual to place a curse on one of her classmates, a popular athlete who bullied her for her white hair. The next day, the student fell ill and had to be cut from the school track team, just before a major event.

Whether or not it was a coincidence, Kanon was sure that this was proof she had supernatural abilities, and she decided then and there she would dedicate her life to their study. She spent much of her time lurking around coffee shops and libraries, studying rituals on paranormal imageboards and searching used bookstores for forbidden lore. Even when other authority figures in her life tried to pressure her into finding a "real job," she didn't listen - and they weren't keen to press the issue with her either, out of fear of what she might do.

If there was any job Kanon realized she could make a living in, it was professional wrestling. On a whim, looking to do something to fill her time, she attended a show from an independent promotion in her area, where she observed that the business would hire just about anyone - the freaks, the outcasts, the dregs of society. Kanon certainly felt like she was all of those things, and she decided to apply for a job at the promotion. She began training, eventually making her way through the ranks of the league and going on to make a few appearances on the independent circuit, where she became a cult phenomenon among those following the indies for her imposing presentation and her ruthlessness in the ring. It didn't take long for her to be spotted by LAW talent scouts, who offered her the biggest deal of her life to come to LAW - and she was willing to take it.

In particular, Kanon saw her opportunity in the Selection - a faction of shadowy wrestlers in control (or controlled by?) a power far beyond the understanding of mortal man. Drawn to this force with her natural sense of curiosity when it came to the occult, and seeing the same power she had always coveted, Kanon was a founding member of the group, pledging her service to the being known as the Anomaly. Now, she leads the faction as second in command and Chief Disciple, and seeks out more lost souls in need of guidance to bring into the fold.

Personality: In some ways, Kanon comes across as the archetypical goth - morbid, detached from reality, and keeping to herself. Some of this comes from her interests and her aesthetic, and some of it is because of her depression, which makes her reluctant to put in the effort to get out of the house much, but she's always preferred the company of books (and the demons she claims to have summoned). She's also a nihilist, and has been all her life. Some describe her as acting as though she's observing her own life from a distance, and she doesn't have much concern for what's happening around her, even showing willingness to put her own well-being at risk to advance her goals. Kanon can appear quite cold and aloof because of this, and she's hard to rattle because she believes the natural world isn't of interest to her, which also makes her very patient and willing to play the long game when she isn't invested in temporary inconveniences. She can make dramatic statements about the big picture, such as claiming to know the fates of those around her, and this can make it difficult for others to relate to her (and vice versa). She truthfully does believe that her powers are real, but she doesn't care much either way if people dismiss her claims - she feels that they'll learn the truth soon enough either way.

Despite all of this, Kanon is not emotionless. Although those who don't know her closely may think so, she actually has a wry sense of humor and enjoys making fun of herself, and her social media is just as full of ironic posts and depression memes as it is creepypastas and occult advice. Effectively, she believes that her existence is a joke, and she doesn't think twice about laughing at it.

Trivia:
  • Kanon eats onions like apples. She claims it's because her sinuses mean nothing to her.
  • Despite being a self-proclaimed magician, Kanon actually has an interest in science fiction literature, with her favorite book being Isaac Asimov's Foundation. She doesn't like the TV series very much, though.
  • She owns more meme shirts than you'd think.
  • Kanon learned Latin just so that she'd be able to read old grimoires, as she fears that translating them to Japanese risks messing something up and causing spells to not work. Or worse.
  • Like many albinos, Kanon has poor eyesight, although she wears glasses (and contacts in the ring) to correct this somewhat.
  • She drinks cough syrup recreationally, and denies she has a problem.

Fighting Style: In the ring, Kanon is an all-rounded perfomer, with a good knowledge of both power moves and technical submissions. She enjoys hard-hitting moves that land with an impact, both for their effectiveness and the ways in which they can intimidate her opponents. Furthermore, because she doesn't prioritize her own safety, she's willing to perform risky manuevers that have as much of a chance as harming her as they do hindering her opponent - though this can just as easily backfire on her.

However, none of those things are where Kanon truly makes a name for herself. What made her most notorious in the wrestling world was the way in which she works the supernatural into her style, making use of rituals in her entrances to allegedly put curses on her opponents and carefully applying lights and pyrotechnics to blur the line of how much she does is real - in fact, some say not even she herself knows how much of the magic she uses in her matches is performed in earnest, and how much is done to keep her opponents guessing. Either way, she finds that the psychological advantage it brings her is valuable, and she's willing to exploit it.

Favored Match Types: Being as distant as she is, Kanon isn't too concerned with what matches she gets booked in - as long as she feels like it can serve her well, she's not going to complain. She does find she has more leeway when it comes to her tricks in certain matches, such as no-DQ matches, but she's just as willing to exploit visual tricks to dazzle and confuse her opponents even in standard matches. After all, there's no rule that says she can't use optical illusions to make her opponents think she isn't there.

Signature Moves:
Black Mist
Key of Solomon
A modified version of a crossface chickenwing, only instead of wrapping her arm around her opponent's face, Kanon twists their own arm over their face.
Finishing Moves:
Ars Goetia
Book of Ebon Bindings

Relationships with Other Characters:
  • Of the Selection, Kanon is closest to Jonathan Steele - or, rather, to the Anomaly, a darkness inside Jonathan's mind that he believes to be a demon possessing him. Kanon fully believes this and pays homage to the Anomaly, describing it as her "father." She believes that the Anomaly will set free the souls of all those at LAW if they embrace the darkness, and that if she is in service to this higher power, her actions are justified.
