It had all come down to this. The choices made in the next few seconds would prove vital in determining what the future of the LAW Heavyweight Championship would look like. Astrid was only moments away from taking a devastating finishing move from heights only previously dreamed of, onto the hard and unforgiving stage. After she had already worked her body to the limit, pushing through pain and fatigue fuelled by a burning desire to survive, Astrid knew there was no way she could ever come back from this.
And if she couldn't...then the title would pass into the hands of Selket, a woman who Astrid already knew had no right to be called a champion. She had waged this war with cruelty and deceit, threatening the Norsewoman outside the ring and using every tactic she could to gain the upper hand and catch her opponent off guard when they at last met face to face. If there was one thing Astrid knew...it couldn't end this way. It was that knowledge alone that pushed her the extra mile, to bring the will to fight back into her aching body once again!
She cried out in rage and determination, even as she was lifted atop Selket's shoulders. And just then, the Egyptian's composure broke. A moment ago, she had been cool and collected, assured in the knowledge that the ultimate prize would be hers in seconds. But then, she was reminded that Astrid wouldn't back down. She was reminded that she wouldn't let this be the end - and that knowledge caused her to crumble.
Selket tried to resist, but it was already too late. With the last gasps of her strength, Astrid grabbed her, hoisting her up to her shoulders in much the same position the champion had found herself in a moment ago. Her muscles went tense, flexing around Selket's leg and head to secure her grip, as her ankles dug into the lattice of the catwalk beneath her feet and her thighs and calves prepared to spring into action. A second later, the tension Astrid had gathered up within her body was released - as she hurled herself and her foe over the edge!
As the two heavyweights plummeted to the ground below, the arena erupted. Some were cheering for Astrid's come-from-behind reversal; others screamed in terror at the thought of the women throwing each other from such heights, casting their own safety to the wind in the name of finishing the match off once and for all. But nothing could stop them now. Astrid's brow furrowed, her features tightening as she focused in on the floor that was coming closer and closer - until, at last, the landed with a crash on the stage.
The ground shook. The stage splintered. For a moment, as the dust cleared, everything went silent. Even the commentary had gone dead - all onlookers were left questioning if what they had just witnessed really happened. But soon, the reality of the situation set in. And although Astrid was just as shaken from the landing as Selket was - her body draped atop her foe, her muscles so sore and heavy as to hardly move as she lay crumpled over the Egyptian - she took slow and weary breaths nonetheless. She was only just barely conscious, but she had the last dying embers of life in her. Just enough for the pin to count.
Even the count of one caused the crowd to cheer, knowing that Astrid was still in the game. And though the three was inevitable, it still brought another roar of applause to the fans when it finally came. Astrid had, perhaps more than ever before, pushed herself to her utmost limits in this match, facing new heights that she had never before dared to go in her career. And in the end...she had triumphed.
"Here is your winner - and STILL LAW Heavyweight Champion," the ring announcer proclaimed as Astrid's arm was lifted up from the crater, "AAAAAAASTRIIIIIIIIIIIID OSTBEEERG!!!" And, as she at last lifted herself off her defeated foe, Astrid looked out to the crowd with a weary eye, but a smile on her face. Her eyelids were growing heavy, but she gazed upon her cheering fans all the same, and she smiled a tired smile. Even as the world around her grew hazy, and a stretcher was brought in to carry herself and Selket out of the arena, her last thoughts before she passed out were that she had made it.
