Past/History:
Spoiler
Born in Japan to a mixed couple in a casual encounter, Hana was born to a mother who only kept her out of cultural pressures. She was barely a factor in Hana’s life compared to her mother’s brother, her uncle, who took pity on the girl. As a baby, he used to constantly babysit her while his sister lived a carefree lifestyle.

Once she grew up to kindergarten age, her uncle started to introduce her to a variety of MMA promotions, as he himself was a big fan of the still young sport, at the time where the rules were still very much getting established. On her own, Hana also started to become a fan of Pro Wrestling, of it’s larger than life personalities, and tough as nails competitors.

Her uncle, who had some money to spend, also managed to get her to a decent school, whereupon she mostly kept to herself. Due to her mixed heritage, she experienced a fair bit of bullying, and anyone who tried to make friends with her was bullied in turn. However, encouraged by her uncle, she got to a variety of combat sports from junior school, like Judo, Boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She took to combat sports as a fish to water, and this solved both her problems at once. While there was bullying in her classes, they allowed her to make friends with kinder students, while also allowing her to stand up for herself in her junior school. In fact, already, she took on the nickname of the “Ogre”, while in Year 2 from the bullies, as she grew to be a confident girl.

At the start of middle school, her mother’s lifestyle caught up with her, and she ended up with a serious illness, before passing away. At this news, her father, a Toymaker by trade, who has grown his company to a decent size in terms of production, decided to take the girl with him, though still maintaining contact with her uncle.

America, however, was a completely fresh set of trials to Hana. Old issues like bullying remained, on top of new ones, such as cultural issues, homesickness, and worst of all - language barrier. Worse yet, Hana’s father was a pacifist at heart, discouraging his daughter from all sorts of combat sports, especially from following MMA actively (while the sport has found footing in America, Hana’s father was still taken aback by the “Bloodsport years” of the business, still believing the sport to be completely lawless).

One by one, Hana overcame the struggles of leaving in America, her father’s girlfriend being an English teacher who managed to teach the now-teenage girl the language. The two became good friends, as she regularly took Hana’s side, even convincing her boyfriend, and later husband, to let Hana do martial arts. With her parents’ help, Hana slowly overcame the cultural issues as well, and as high-school ended, she was determined to try her hand in MMA as a sport (though still finishing her studies to focus on art, to appease her dad’s wishes to have a second career choice). With her success in Judo and BJJ, the MMA world seemed to be at her fingertips, especially with her uncle still cheering her on in her potential career.

Right as she was about to finish her studies, tragedy would strike overseas, as Hana got the news of her Uncle’s death. Attending her funeral, besides her mother’s family, there were a lot of unfamiliar men to her there.

As Hana discovered from her Uncle’s friend, he lead a double life, fighting in underground organizations after being banned from professional competition (due to a discovery of a detached retina on his left eye). He has been doing these matches from even before Hana was born, but the boss of his company has changed, and had little use for the aging fighter. But no matter how many fresh faces he sent at the man, no one could take the company’s title from him. To make the matters easy, he requested 3 of the fighters to “talk” to him backstage at the night of his death.

With research and help from online friends, the boss, the underground org, and the 3 fighters were all easily identified, and Hana set off on her revenge quest. While one would think it was foolish to try and fight against an entire criminal organization, the truth of the matter was that, from her resarch, Hana discovered that “the Boss” was a small fish in a large ocean that was Japanese criminal underworld. He didn’t have as much expense to hire more men than his 3 fighters (especially after losing a lot of money to bad bets on fights and poor financial decisions). With the right planning, Hana could get payback.

The first target was easy enough. After some “persuasion” from Hana, one of the fighter that was supposed to fight one of her father’s killers, a woman marked to be the shadow organization’s new top star (introduced simply as: “Beauty”), became unavailable for a fight, Hana swiftly introducing herself as a potential replacement, using her High School Nickname of: “The Ogre”.

The fight started, and as she discovered, Beauty didn’t have as much skill as she was built up to have. Within 30 seconds of round 1, Hana had the woman at her mercy. With Hana’s skill, she knew she could get proper revenge for her uncle’s murder…but decided better off it. She didn’t leave the woman unscathed, however, as she broke her leg with a kneebar, ending her career there and then.

The other two fighters, the boss of the org confronted Hana, alongside two other fighters, a spry male lightweight fighter (“Brain”) and a burly heavyweight (“Brawn”). Naturally, having taken down the planned star attraction of his org, the Boss wanted revenge.

Hana tried to fight the three men off, but even with a few good hits in, 3 against 1 was just too much.

And so she ran, managing outmaneuver her captors, despite her injuries and fatigue from her fight.

Brain, the second-in-command of the org, would manage to trace Hana down, even as she tried to lay low. Brain tried to confront the girl personally, and for his troubles, got back to his boss with a concussion and a broken arm.

The Boss’s fledgling criminal empire was crumbling before his eyes, and not just because of Hana. With 2 of his organization’s top stars permanently shelved, the Brawn got out…and on his train to a smaller part of Japan, late at night, he was ambushed by Hana, beaten bloody. As he was the biggest contributor to her Uncle’s death, he got the most brutal punishment of all. Hana broke his neck, paralyzing him from the neck down, but keeping him alive.

The next day, the Boss was arrested, and the authorities were already looking for whoever injured the Brawn. As disappointing as it was to end her crusade there incomplete, Hana didn’t want to serve time for vigilante justice.

Her American family got the news of the takedown of the organization. Putting two and two together, they knew what Hana has done, and wanted nothing to do with her, cutting her off from her family.

With limited funds that she had, and the cred that she got in the criminal underworld, Hana managed to secure a stable leaving for herself, as an occasional bouncer and underground and amateur MMA fighter. But the closed off opportunities left the young Hana with little passion for the sport, even as some talent scouts offered her contracts for opening fights in professional organizations. She still fought in those successfully, as paycheck was a paycheck.

And then a new offer came. From a wrestling organization, a passion Hana still tried to make sure to keep up with. Hana was a fan of LAW, and of Clara Gaster in particular. And after a successful fight in mid-2023, was surprised to discover that her fight was watched by the wrestler, who has undertook a part time job as a talent scout for her federation.

Under Clara’s direction, Hana enrolled into a wrestling school. Her skills developed quickly, with her fighting prowess easily translating to the wrestling ring. With her adapting very quickly, in Spring of 2024, Hana Hoshiki has officially signed a contract with LAW.
