Sofia was an accident—an unexpected child born to a poor Finnish couple. Working long hours just to barely make ends meet, Sofia's parents were unable to pay much attention to her. Between the lack of supervision and lack of basic necessities, Sofia fell into delinquency at an early age. As she grew up, minor squabbles and petty thievery eventually turned into all-out brawls and robbery.
By the age of fourteen, Sofia had become an enforcer for an organized crime group as a means of providing for herself. Despite being of a comparatively smaller stature relative to her victims at the time, her brutality and skill with weapons made her quite effective. Additionally, the organized crime group she worked with paid for her to train in MMA, making her all the more dangerous.
But despite Sofia's violent and impulsive nature, she knew that such a lifestyle would very likely get her killed. Thus, in a bid to turn her life around, she enlisted in the Finnish Defense Forces at the age of eighteen, eventually becoming part of the Finnish Rapid Deployment Force (FRDF). During her time in the military, she went from violent, impulsive thug to disciplined, trained killer. Sofia ultimately served for five years, doing tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
In her fifth year of service, Sofia was tasked with guarding the entry point to a forward operating base. While she was carrying out her duty, a supply truck pulled up to the base—nothing out of the ordinary. Sofia did the typical inspection and found nothing amiss, so she let the truck through. However, the truck had been carrying a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED). The VBIED went off, killing a number of people and injuring Sofia's right eye. Although Sofia was not punished for the incident, she became bitter over it. Because of this bitterness, she did not reenlist after finishing her tour of duty.
Upon returning to Finland, she quickly got involved with organized crime once again. For three years, she worked as a bodyguard, enforcer, and hitwoman. She also trained and competed in MMA as a side-gig during this time. Over the course of those three years, she tortured, beat, and killed people under the orders of her superiors. However, unlike her first stint with organized crime, Sofia's brutality this time around was fueled by bitterness and anger.
Despite several close calls with the law, Sofia was never caught. Instead, what ended Sofia's career in organized crime were actions of her superiors. Her superiors had caught the attention of the authorities, which led to the authorities breaking the group up. Luckily for her, Sofia managed to escape, obtaining a new identity and fleeing Finland in the process.
At this point, all Sofia knew was violence. And the anger and resentment that she held in her heart made it all but impossible for her divorce herself from violence. But despite Sofia's violent nature, she was well aware of the risks of living such a violent life. So, rather than return to her criminal ways, Sofia decided to enter the world of combat sports. She did not want to simply do MMA though—too tame, too regulated. Sofia wanted to hurt people. Brutalize them and get paid for doing so.
LAW afforded Sofia an opportunity to do so: hardcore matches, weapons matches, lax refereeing. LAW was the perfect stomping ground for Sofia to wreak havoc. Thus, Sofia moved to Japan and signed with LAW under the name "Valmet".
