History:
Spoiled for long
Hiro doesn’t have the most interesting life story. He had an ordinary middle-class upbringing with unassuming parents and a younger sister, he went to a local school and got average grades, and he didn’t put too much thought into his future, preferring to take things as they came to him. Some people might have called him lazy or a slacker, but he preferred to call it “being undecided.” He figured that, some day, the universe would give him a sign that would direct his future.

And, as it so happened, one day the universe did, but in a way that would recall the old adage of being careful for what one wished for. When he was in high school, minding his own business and just trying to keep up with schoolwork in order to pass, he was introduced to a girl in his class by the name of Kirie Tsukada. He didn’t know it at the time, but Kirie decided she was his girlfriend, and she didn’t bother waiting to see if Hiro was already seeing someone or if there were any other prospects. As Hiro lived his life in blissful, oblivious ignorance, Kirie worked behind the scenes, pulling the strings and manipulating events so that any of the several other girls in the class who liked Hiro (mostly without him being any the wiser) would leave him alone - whether they went peacefully or if they had to be coerced, she didn’t care, as long as she got to be the only one for him. Hiro didn’t really pay any attention to this, and as such, he didn’t do anything to intervene. He had other things to worry about, like studying, and the meddling of his classmates didn’t concern him.

On the last day of their first school year together, Kirie finally managed to approach Hiro after class, after she was sure any of her rivals for his affections had been dealt with. There, she confessed her feelings to him. Hiro had no idea what she had done to get to where she was then, and he was too busy being flustered to think that a pretty girl was actually asking him out to read too much into it. He agreed to start dating, and the two have been together ever since.

As time went on, they began to spend more time together, and slowly Hiro began to see the cracks forming in Kirie’s cheerful, upbeat facade. He noticed that she was quick to anger, even threatening other students over seemingly minor issues, and became more and more clingy, forbidding other girls from being in the same vicinity of him. He started to worry if he should say anything, but at the same time, he had come to truly love Kirie for who she was, and he didn’t want to risk what they had - especially when he wasn’t sure how well she would take it, given how she took other things. He tried to commit himself to his life and his studies, putting other things out of his mind. He was in school, he had a girlfriend, and that was all that mattered. He just had to keep on top of his classes and do whatever he could for her to make sure she was happy. That couldn’t be so hard.

The years passed, and with graduation approaching, Hiro realized he would need to think more about his future. He still hadn’t worked anything out as to where he wanted to go or what to do with his life, and his parents, for what it was worth, didn’t pressure him into anything, allowing him to go at his own pace and assuring him he would know when he was ready. If anyone made the decisions as to where he would go, it was Kirie, who was looking into colleges. All Hiro knew was that wherever Kirie would go, he was going to follow her. He knew she wouldn’t accept anything less.

While he was contemplating what he’d be majoring in, and helped Kirie decide on where to go next, Hiro realized he was entering a new phase of his life and that he was going to have to become more independent - which was ironic, given his relationship status, but he knew he needed a job one way or another. After all, he’d have to support himself some way through his education. He spent the summer looking through the classifieds and finding whatever struck his fancy. While he did a lot of odd jobs here and there, usually not lasting more than a week or two before he noticed something new to jump to that seemed more exciting (or, more often, that paid better), it was one of these jobs that gave him pause.

A wrestler in a local joshi promotion was looking for a manager. While this was nothing Hiro, who wasn’t much of a public speaker, was used to, he still felt it would be a good use of his time. He had always been a fan of wrestling, but he doubted he could ever get into the business himself given his less than stellar physique and lack of experience. But being a manager was something different. He could still play a role in the promotion, becoming privy to how it operated behind the scenes and having a front seat to the action as it unfolded, as well as learning about any new developments or plans before anyone else. It seemed like a perfect opportunity for a wrestling fan, and the only real job requirements, he thought, were being able to use a microphone. There were other jobs that paid better, but this seemed well worth the money. He signed on, and, after an interview, he was accepted to the job. Hiro was excited to tell his friends (at least, those he still saw, given that Kirie was encroaching more and more on his personal life) that he was finally involved in the business.

Given that it was a women’s promotion, it was a bit different than what he was used to, and he felt nervous at the thought of being around so many girls. But Hiro’s employers assured him that there was nothing to worry about, and that his relationship with his client would strictly be a business one. The girl he was paired up with understood this perfectly well, and she wasn’t going to ask for anything more.

Unfortunately, Kirie did not take that for an answer. Once she saw what her boyfriend was doing, and that he was hanging around another girl, her mind immediately jumped to the worst. She was convinced this bitch was seducing her man, and she needed to assert herself! After going to one show where Hiro would be attending to his duties, Kirie snuck into the locker room to confront his client. The girl was confused as to what she was going on about, but when Kirie attempted to pick a fight, she quickly displayed her command of holds and got her to submit within seconds.

For most people, this would be enough to convince them not to pick fights with wrestlers. But not Kirie. After she recovered from her wounds (with Hiro’s support, of course), the two of them formed a plan. He was going to stop managing his current client, he was going to help her train and become a wrestler herself, and he was going to start managing her instead. It was the only way to be sure. Though Hiro could have tried to explain, he had known Kirie long enough to know she wouldn’t accept any answer but her own, and he felt like he had let her down on top of that, so he agreed to the plan. Hiro looked on the bright side. He’d get to stay with the company and keep his job, and he’d get to work with his girlfriend this time. Besides, he thought, he might be able to reign her in this way.

Well, that last part was wrong. Kirie continued wrestling, establishing herself as a top contender on the local circuit, and Hiro was in her corner the whole time. From time to time she would call in favors on him, to smuggle in foreign objects or distract her opponents, and his aid certainly didn’t hurt her ascent. He had his reservations at first about helping her cheat, but she insisted he would help her if he really loved her, and how could he argue with that? Before long, he had come to accept things as they came, and if Kirie wanted to cheat, so be it.

Eventually, the day came when Kirie would face off against her rival, the same girl who Hiro had once managed. It was in that match that something snapped in Kirie, and she flew into a rage, brutalizing the unfortunate wrestler until she was thrown out of the ring. The incident got her banned from the promotion, but Kirie knew her wrestling career was far from over. She set her sights on new and greater leagues, and when her travels took her to LAW, it was only natural that her long-suffering manager followed her there.
Personality: Hiro is a mild-mannered, unassuming young man who’s deeply in over his head. He’s not exactly the brightest, and his slower wits probably played a big part in him not seeing the warning signs in Kirie when he should have, but he’s also too much of a doormat to take any action now that he’s in deep. He’s socially awkward and defers to what more confident and outspoken people have to say before he’ll follow his own gut, and he also doesn’t have much drive, preferring to idly take things as they come. These qualities might seem strange in a wrestling manager, but by this point, he’s pretty much only around so that Kirie can keep him close and so she can fall back on him to cheat in her favor - and he does practice and rehearse speeches and promos in advance to make up for his insecurities, though he isn’t as good if he has to improvise. What’s also noteworthy about Hiro is that he has terrible luck when it comes to social situations. By some strange works of fate, he seems to find himself in awkward or compromising positions more than anyone reasonably should - particularly if they involve other girls, whom he has difficulties talking to or composing himself around. He means well, he’s just prone to misunderstandings - and subsequently winds up having to run damage control when Kirie inevitably reacts in the worst way possible.

Trivia:
  • Hiro has had offers to take up training and get in the ring himself, in light of LAW accepting male in-ring talent. He’s turned this down because he knows Kirie would take things the wrong way if he and another girl were rolling around on each other in glorified undergarments.
  • Hiro’s sister thinks it’s really cool that he gets to work with wrestlers, and she gets along well with Kirie when she visits, but he refuses to let her watch any of their matches because he’s afraid of Kirie’s bad influence corrupting her.
  • He’ll never admit to it, but he enjoys watching his girlfriend wrestle. Though he considers it a personal shame, everyone around him finds it ridiculously obvious.

Friends:
  • Kirie Tsukada is Hiro’s girlfriend and exclusive client (mostly per her idea). Their relationship isn’t exactly a healthy one, and she’s clingy to dangerous extremes, but the two genuinely love each other, for better or worse.
